Welcome to the South Coast in the summerâŚ
Yesterday I took my watch into a jewellers (Constad in Petersfield) to enquire about servicing/cleaning/whatever. Itâs a Longines; the movement was made in 1959 and shipped in January 1960 to Wittnauer Longines in New York, where the case, face, hands etc. were added. The date of the invoice to Wittnauer Longines is 13th January 1960 - just a few days before I was born. It was a sixtieth birthday present from my ever-loving wife, so the coincidence of dates is more than a little appealing.
The jeweller asked if it was working OK. I told him it loses around a minute a day. He then said that having it serviced is the last thing that I should do, as if a watch of that age is keeping time that well youâd end up spending a few hundred pounds on a service, with no guarantee that it would work as well afterwards.
Good service, with a genuine understanding of both the item and the customerâs interests, I like that.
60 Dorian? Howâs the painting in the attic?
Looking a little the worse for wear, to be honest. And, had you been more arithmetically attuned, youâd have spotted that I am actually sixty-one. Couple of extra lines on the old painting, but little else worthy of comment.
I was being charitable tbf
Harsh but funny
âŚthatâs quite a nice analogy
Yep I have my annual blood pressure review next week, so I thought Iâd better check itâŚ123/70. Yep thatâll do.
Iâve had my analogue watch for three years now and I was wondering if it would need a service but after @Fowllydâs short tutorial I wonât botherâŚloses a minute every two days.
Actually.
The missus has just got another job. Sheâs like the opposite of Yosser Hughes.
Iâm staggered that you allowed another ginger into the pap household.
Reading that the first insurrection has been given a jail sentence.
May the other 500 follow soon, for longer terms.
