True story.

My dad favoured D’arcey / Darcey as a name for me.

Think about they every time you tickle his? belly.

And now, every time he sees one of your new blouses he thinks “D’arcey” would have done just fine

He’s a she. I think the name’s a giveaway on that, as did your dad, so it seems.

You are so closed minded.

My dad was going for the Irish angle.

You’ve basically given a dog a name that will leave poor Darcey confused about her sexuality and ethnic origin. To be sure etre sur.

Darcy Origin and Meaning

The name Darcy is a boy’s name of French, Irish origin meaning " from Arcy".

Though Darcy is the ultimate Jane Austen hero name, it is rarely used for boys today though it’s on the upswing for girls. A shame as it’s a handsome, roguish kind of appellation that combines elements of French flair, aristocratic savoir faire, and a soft Irish brogue. And in terms of image, it’s one of the quintessential English names for boys.

Were I a pedant (and before you cavil, you haven’t met my brother), Jane Austen’s great romantic hero has Darcy as his surname. Unless his parents, like those of Heller’s Major Major (or indeed Phil and Gary Neville’s grandparents), had an uncharacteristic sense of humour, I doubt that his first name was Darcy.

Even Georgian parents wouldn’t have done that to a boy.

After my good news on the PC front, I’m listing the whole damn shebang. I can remember every year I got a new PC. It’s a big thing, only happens every few years and is driven by a nagging sense of inadequacy as your machine sputters and dies when presented with new software.

As any PC owner knows, the general form is:-

  • Load up every program that was crap before
  • Think, ooh, this looks/runs nice.
  • Never touch 90% of it again.

It’s not just a little pleasure of everyday life. That ought to be a new universal constant.

It’s fair to say I’m a bit stoked for the new machine. It’s a geek thing.
