Star Trek Disco ep 5 not available on Paramount though it was supposed to be available yesterday- seems affecting some and not others. :rage:

Calling all computer-literate forum members. I am being plagued by a pop up that appears on my laptop in the middle of the screen by something powered by PC Appstore with an advert of some kind by McAfee warning me about cyber attacks and wanting me to extend protection ,ie, pay 50 bucks , which i have no intention of doing. I already have protection against viruses etc. Any ideas how I get rid of it would be gratefully received, it pops up when I switch on, then remains in the centre of the screen for about 10 minutes, then disappears for about 10 minutes then reappears. It’s driving me crazy, will I have to take the laptop into a shop to get rid of it? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Don’t do this - that’s how they catch you

I don’t know what browser you’re using but it’s a good idea to search for: ā€œWhy do I keep getting pop-ups on my computer?ā€
It will take you through steps to eliminate it.

I’ve done that and followed the instructions, which got rid of it for four or five days, but then it came back. It’s something to do with a PC Apps Store running in the background I think. It’s the only pop up I get. It’s driving me mad, I get a 10 or 15 minute window when it disappears then it reappears just as I’m in the middle of something. It’s driving me crazy. It’s clearly beyond my,(very limited) computer skills. I’m afraid.

Open your main search function by clicking on the window symbol bottom left. Search for Uninstall. It may be called Add or Remove programs.

Then search for the name of the irritating pop up and if you can find it, hit Remove or Uninstall.

Its possible it’s installed itself or you accidentally allowed it to. Find it and bin it!

Worth a try

Might also be an extension, if it’s Chrome?

Buy a Mac.

I’ve mentioned this man before. I subscribe to his YouTube channel and over the years he’s built a very useful library of non-geeky help videos.
This one might help, if not there are other of his videos about pop-ups that might work for you…

Local Politics.
We live in farming country. Zabierzow next door is a big town with Industry Business Park & Logistics hub. It has trains about every 30m to town and outbound, 6 Municipal bus lines (soon rising to 8.
They also used to subsidise Minibus Lines through town (and our village) to Krakow.
That contract ended with the supplier in early March he refused to sign a new one as he couldn’t make money in the post covid economy.
So the Council - pushed by the favourite to be new mayor set up 2 lines through the outlying vilages but not ours :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
They also set up an HOURLY bus service to the Airport. Now that is REALLY handy, not just for twice a year Phil but also all the people who work there.
Because
The new Mayor
Forgot to set the bus fares.
SO all the services are FREE!
which is great.
But they go from an area of the town 2.25kms from us - not one connecting bus at all and for the workers. Nowhere to park.
So yeah I can get to the airporr if I carry my luggage 2.5kms and it isn’t raining or my knee is actually working

Let me guess

ā€œI hate youā€
" its not fair"
ā€œyou are so unreasonableā€
ā€œgruntā€

On the upside, you only have to put up with it for 8 hours a day cos they dont get out of bed until 2pm

Blown iPhone battery…on this phone as I speak / type. Apparently could blow up / catch fire.

Will be transferring to an old phone of Mrs C_S until I get a new one

Picked car up in Surrey tonight, so went to Chelsea v Spurs after.

M3 shut J3 to 4a, so let’s go back on M4. Just before Heathrow, without warning, 4 lanes down to 1 causes 30 min delay. Then they announce its shut J10 to 12, so lovely diversion round Winnersh to get tto the Basingstoke road.

Then to cap it all, M3 shut at Eastleigh.

Cunts!!
