Not sure why it’s an issue that the government asked them to vote - it’s genuinely surprising (to me at least) that a country that embraces a lot of progressive ideas fell at this hurdle- actually it’s not and the issues go a lot deeper.
I don’t know anything about the issue beyond what the article mentions. The “little annoyance” to me is the reaction of the man who called the referendum, and what he considers to be his responsibilities.
Asking a Nation that is (unlike UK) still religious outside the big city to vote on something that God deemed to be the thing to do…
