Despite being one of the highest turnout polls in sotonians history* the necessary 66%** majority has not been achieved. I will thus remain in good stead as ‘Gavstar’ with my reputation as one of the younger, cooler, trendier/with it, members in reasonable tact. I know you’ve been following Dr John throughout this, and he obviously knows what he’s talking about. I’ve been reading most of MD’s reporting in Private Eye, and although he’s been very critical on a lot of aspects I’d say that in general he’s not been anywhere near as damning of the government as I’d have expected. In fact, I’d say that on balance he comes across as in the “best fist they could have made of it given the circumstances” camp more than the “they’re worse than serial killers” one. And as you know, that publication is absolutely anti- whatever government happens to be in charge, they’re wholly unsympathetic towards authority almost as a matter of policy.

Has it been a difficult job? Yes undoubtedly.
Have they done their best? Questionable.
Has it been good enough? 150k+ dead would suggest not.
At a time of crisis those with the RESPONSIBILITY to look after this country’s citizens have failed.

Yes you know I’d agree that the job has been difficult but it seems to me that the initial painting of the pandemic as a minor inconvenience led to not only Governmental complacency but that of the general public.
The laissez faire attitude to International travel and the inability to even check on traveller’s temperatures as they waltzed through Heathrow immigration from all points east was fuckin’ mental. You should have seen Dr. John’s attitude to that.
It’s as if they didn’t understand what “Pandemic” meant.
