Walking through the hospital to get an X-Ray and there are signs on the floor saying ā€œKeep Leftā€, obviously some people can’t decide what is their left or right, the amount of weaving people I had to dodge or apply the brakes so they wouldn’t walk into me was amazing.

The Ayatollah asking (yeah right) me to do job I deem as pointless - cleaning the inside on the oven door - between the glazing

Off comes the door no problem

However putting the bastard back - holy shit - an hour of cursing swearing (mainly at the Ayatollah as she is stood at my shoulder offering pearls of wisdom) and sweating

One cut hand and the fucking thing now looks worse than before

The Ayatollah eventually had the good sense to STFU as I raged around the kitchen clutching a screwdriver

I dream of having an Oven again.
Fvck Covid.

Our Gas & Electric deal expires soon so have been looking at new deals.

We’ve been anti-Smart Meters since they became a thing, but every fucking new deal says they are mandatory. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Any reason you’re against a smart meter?

Mainly because of the unreliability - my folks, my sister and a couple of friends have all had problems with significant overcharging. All had refunds when complaints were lodged. Other than that I’m sure they’re making more money for shareholders and hopefully the meter readers have all managed to find new jobs.

I too know people who have been overcharged. Mr Tigger arranged to have a smart meter fitted but forgot to tell me. I turned the guy away when he showed up

Can’t remember the last time I saw a meter reader, and I haven’t got a smart meter

I think they’re supposed to come once a year

To read the meters that is…

Overcharged in the sense that the company charged too much for the amount of energy metered, or that the regular monthly payments allowed a large credit to amass on the account? Or that the meters were inaccurate in favour of the company?

Mainly high bills - in the case of my folks, the meter recorded high electricity usage when they weren’t actually in the property for a couple of weeks.

That’s worrying. I can understand when they miscalculate the monthly amount adjusted for annual expectations, but if the smart meters are actually logging energy use when there isn’t any, I don’t see how most people could be aware of that. Unless they read their meters before going away, and even then, how would you be confident that all the other readings are accurate?

My late father was a bit obsessive about things like that. Their first bill was way higher than expected and he would literally watch the bloody thing even when boiling a kettle, so no taking readings wasn’t unusual for him. They got the original replaced eventually with a 2nd generation meter but the mistrust was still there.

This is an interesting point. We recently received a letter from SSE (whose local HQ is a few miles from where we currently live), asking us to supply them with a meter reading. This, apparently, is because they haven’t had a reading from us in quite some time. Our electricity and gas meters are next to each other, on the outside of the house, and therefore easily accessible.

So it certainly looks to me as if the services of meter readers have been dispensed with by SSE in this area.

I was surprised when one turned up a while back - can’t remember if pre/post lockdown, but we’ve been generally providing own readings for a while. Buttering is up for the convenience of a smart meter I guess.

So I’ve done something to my shoulder and it really hurts from time to time and when I’m sitting at my desk working.

So work have kindly given me a lifting desk so I can stand up and work

It has eased the pain in my shoulder but boy does my back ache now…
