😠 The Little Annoyances Of Everyday Life (Part 1)

See what I mean @intiniki ?

Btw, you can’t tell from the pic in the link but the"patient" is held to the chair by cable ties and the "surgery’ is in the back of a surprisingly spotless white van.

Since I rearranged my desk in the office no

Previous had my back to the door and half the office could see what was on the two screens on the desk. looking directly at the boss.

Now my back to the wall, a clear view of the door, front of screens out of sight of prying eyes and they make a useful barrier between me and the boss.

Shung fei at work at work :lou_lol:

Nope. So that’s probably a good thing.

Good news guys!

My back to back is bringing lip balm. Sure the day before I go home anyway, but small victories.

I tried to get vaseline from the electricians, but there was a breakdown in communication between my very poor Russian and their very poor english and the whole conversation ended with me miming dipping my finger in something and rubbing it all over my lips.

I dread to think what they thought I wanted.

SW Railways - yet again

:lou_angry:

What have the Chinese said?

In the name of asserting capitalist freedom over state collectivism, a 30 percent stake in the South Western Railway — a critical carrier across heavily populated southern England — has been sold to a one-party Communist state (albeit with extensive experience in capitalist enterprise).

Beijing will also operate the new Crossrail Line, which will start its central London services in December, and eventually run from the eastern commuter county of Essex to the western English heartland of Buckingham and Berkshire.

Not really a little annoyance, more like a very large one. Just seen the announcement that Gordon Taylor, the 73 year old chief executive of the PFA, recieved a salary of 2.29 million quid last year. The PFA is still constituted as an actual trade union, so he is far and away the highest paid union leader in this country. To put this into perspective, the Professional Cricketers Association paid their CEO 137,990 last year, the Rugby Players Association paid theirs 134,430. The most outrageous comparison though, is with the money the PFA spends on what most people consider it’s primary purpose, to help the thousands of former professional footballers whose efforts built their clubs and the game in this country, but who never earned anything approaching the millions banked by todays players. Many of them find themselves after their short careers facing physical injuries and infirmity, mental suffering, dementia, penury etc. Last year the total amount paid in benevolent grants to members and former members was a paltry 530,000 pounds, less than a quarter of greedy bastard Taylor’s salary package. What an absolute scandal, his bonus last year alone was 770,183. This sums up everything that is wrong with the modern game, a fucking disgrace.

The guy in the post office this morning who instead of standing in line, decided to stand right next to me at the counter.

That’s what elbows are for :lou_wink:

When her employer is about to tip over and go global it has a cash flow crisis so your wife is laid off.

So the day AFTER she clears her desk she is still working on a project at 11pm…

And we both have 7am meetings tomorrow…

Can you explain why she did that @dubai_phil

If I had been laid off and had cleared my desk I would have been out of there. Was it in the hope of being taken back on if cashflow improves? Or something else. Have heard Dubai can sometimes not be the easiest of places to work exp when losing a job.

Tech start up. New VC coming in but will take 12 weeks to complete. A contract got delyed so no cash for wages. 16 others left the project keeps the business solvent for a couple of weeks. New job starts in 2 weeks but employer wants her back if VC Complete #dilemna

She would get stock options nightmare situation. Lay off was fair as gave her time to find something else IF

Well, good luck & fingers crossed!

This is a controversial annoyance but one that annoys me.

People that speak other languages than English in communal English environments, particularly in a professional environment.

It’s basically loud whispering to most ears.

Ah I’ve probably done this. I don’t mind it. In my office lots of people speak Twi as most of them are Ghanian. No one has raised an issue. However when the two Portuguese workers chatted they were told not to as people thought they were talking about others. I overheard them in the kitchen and they were just moaning about how rubbish work is. Which I say in English often.

It’s fine if one party speaks crap or no English. When everybody can speak English, I think it unnecessary, and have seen how divisive it can be when taken to the extreme.

I’ll never forget my former boss showing me around our ivory tower in North Carolina. He introduces me to everyone on the floor, except the Indian contingent, who all sat together, and rarely spoke English.

“Ah, we don’t really speak with them”, my boss “explained”.

Finding out that your ideal job came up. But you didn’t see it advertised and it’s gone to someone already. How much of a fuss you can make when you have to work with those people still.
