It seems that the Trump/Bolton gambit (eventual regime change in Iran) isnât playing so well. Plenty of unfavourable media coverage, with little sign of falling into line. Which is good to see, though whether it makes any real difference remains to be seen.
Bolton is a fucking nasty piece of work. Should be imprisoned for the moustache alone.
Security concerns aside I do find this a little troubling that because Trump has an issue with China he is basically killing one of the most popular brand mobiles (2nd behind Samsung in terms of sales I believe).
And sending them down the Nokia Trap of believing they can create their own OS (and not have You-Tube in it.)
OK so they will end up selling to some grannies around the world but imagine a millenial without a single thumb press access to You Tube? Not gonna happen.
Youâre not helping much are you
Iâd argue China has learnt from 2010, the demand is higher(other sources get more expensive all the time) and they can flood the market when it suits them. As the article says, they have ore, we have dirt. How much are people willing to pay for an iPhone would be the question within a couple of years(China make those as well donât they?).
And pay taxđ
I heard that a mid range apple costs $30 to make(only software to install). Some greedy cunt would be suicidal if you told them to make it at home and pay their tax.
Hereâs hoping
But then reading some of the business news sites this week, it seems to be carnage.
British Steel, Thomas Cook, House Builders. Industry across the board seemingly taking massive hits at the moment, despite all the âeconomy is bouyantâ spin.
This must be a first. TWO Sotonians being able to see âLatest Newsâ as it develops in the same day!!
Itâs still raining here (and across most of central Europe tbh).
The local State âPresidentâ (read Senator, Mayor) has declared an emergency as they struggle to deal with the volume of rain. We spotted the local Fire Brigade just now surveying our little stream (The Rudawa) which feeds into Polandâs largest river the Vistula in the City Centre and seen clean up crews around the roads. The frecast was for it to stop tomorrow, but itâs now going to keep pouring. (and yep, my fake Goretex jacket has failed its endurance test!!)
Damascus Saint walked then did the bench selfie with us on the Vistula riverside back in early March
The little stream (The Rudawa) next to us runs through Mrs P_Fâs home village of Bolechowice, then into Zabierzow (where the fire brigade are out deploying sandbags). Iâm not TOO concerned as the flood plain is the other side of the stream and runs a good 2 kms back to the right of this picture. (Plus we live on the 3rd floor and if our feet get wet we may have bigger problems than our few souvenirs! BUT I may need to move the car, the boss is already panicking!
Itâs still developing and tbh Krakow has got off quite lightly compared to places like Lublin a bit further north & east of us. But, here is the story
:Update:
This was the new railway bridge in Zabierzow earlier today. Lol the contractors will be getting a bill from the Mayor as the contract for the refurb included improved drainage to stop the village being cut in half when it rained!
(The Mini-bus is one of the secondary bus services we have here - they run quicker routes in and out of town, standing for 20 minutes in one of those ainât much fun!)
The filthy nonce Bob Higgins has been found guilty on 45 counts of abusing young boys, getting away with it, mostly in plain sight, for 25 years. It took long enough but better late than never. May he rot in prison for the rest of his life.
Itâs STILL raining.za Fire Engine siren on the motorway about every 30 minutes. Been sent messages on FB telling us not to travel due to high levels of silt after they pump water out and where to get sandbags. Upstream from Krakow the Army & Helicopters are desperately repairing levees on the massive Vistula. The PM & others all doing visits to keep the spirits up.
Story of a flooded Dog rescue centre dogs safe but knee deep as they try to get cages & transport to move them to safety.
Vistula forecast to keep rising until at least Saturday the storm is small in area but has the power/water of a tropical cyclone.
This shit is getting real here now.
Our stream & defences are ok tonight fire brigade just came round in a 4x4.
Wish I had popcorn
