this is an interesting one… Woman released and pardoned after president intervenes and magistrates refuse to. For me, the woman has been through enough and it’s right that she is free. But is it right that one mans intervention should go against the law of the land?

Yipe. Fair to say Bibi doesn’t take international criticism well.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told New Zealand’s foreign minister that his country’s sponsoring of the UN anti-settlement resolution was a “declaration of war”.

Mr Netanyahu has also lashed out at President Barack Obama after Friday’s Security Council vote, on which the United States’ abstention marked a break with tradition, and called the action a “shameful ambush”.

Worse than that, in many respects, is Israel’s threat to withdraw aid from Senegal, who also voted in favour of the resolution. No less than one would expect from Netanyahu of course - all the more so given that his government is dependent on the support of some seriously unpleasant, hardline parties.

Israel uses the party list system in their elections. On paper, it’s one of the most proportional systems in the world. Each party picks a list that could theoretically fill the whole house. If a party attains forty percent of the vote, the first forty percent of its list goes into Parliament. Lovely in theory. No-one is disenfranchised proportionally.

Critics would say that there’s no local link, and that parties can stack their lists so that favoured candidates would always be near the top of the list and there would be absolutely fuck all local culpability or accountability save for the more regional authorities. National political dynasties could continue unabated.

Defenders would say it makes it much easier to wholesale unseat a political establishment if people don’t like what they see. Morrissey might quickly get his wish of an England without Labour or Tory under the party list system. Anyone rolling up with enough votes, or as Fowylld points out, enough votes and the support of some fringe folk with (ahem) more specific needs (with concessions, of course).

I’m honestly not sure whether party list is a bad system per se. Israel ain’t the best place to judge it.

Working overnight and the latest Twitter rumours are one of the royals has pegged it but there’s a media blackout . My money’s on Phil the Greek.

It could be Ricky Tomlinson - he’s getting on a bit and he’s no stranger to a fry-up.

Not the first time I’ve heard this. Juvenile Unit #1 was going on about it when I got in last night.

Perhaps more concrete is the fact that the US has expelled 35 Russian diplomats, citing involvement in Russian election hacks. Does make me wonder whether Trump will take office. The Obama administration is going all out to discredit him.

I suspect that 35 expulsions is a serious statement of annoyance and no sign of a new era of harmony…

Thankfully the people have chosen wisely and the new president will be able to use his diplomacy skills to avert confrontation with another superpower.

Trump is going to reverse much of what Obama is doing anyway. Russian relations will warm. Not sure I’d say the same about China.

Of course, including free healthcare. Trump will roll back increased medical insurance premiums for people with existing illnesses, like cancer.

I’m 100% doing this the next time I order a take away. Not cold and flu stuff, but maybe some Ale, or we are always running out of bread and cheese.

5 people shot dead at Florida airport by a man who landed with a gun in his checked in luggage. How is that even possible?

Israel targets Alan Duncan on account of his opposition to settlements.

There is a big four part documentary starting next week called “The Lobby” out in around a week too.

Alan can probably expect no support from the Prime Minister, who remains committed to the cause of political zionism.
