Well, I can’t read the study as I don’t speak German. However, given that it’s commissioned by not one but two automobile associations, I’d treat it with a massive level of scepticism. Chances are it bases its findings on assumptions such as that all electricity is produced by coal-fired power stations, or that it ignores the emissions caused by getting diesel to cars in the first place. There have been numerous such studies produced by motor manufacturers’ societies over recent years.

I suspect that a lot of the co2 comes from the mining operations to get the lithium etc for the batteries
