There were (still are?) murdering bastards on both side of the sectarian divide. I guess the good thing was that something good finally came out of the troubles. Not that the families who lost loved ones will take much comfort from that.

killing the leaders of a paramilitary organisation doesnât destroy the organisation, it just keeps the cycle of violence going and recruits more to the cause.

Presumably you also think the British Army shooting 26 unarmed civilians, killing 14 of them, most shot in the back whilst running away, some shot whilst tending to the injured, were âdoing their job properlyâ. Turning what was up until then a peaceful protest march into a bloodbath. That was the turning point which led to armed conflict between Republicans and the British State. No amount of hand wringing and apportioning of blame for the subsequent troubles can alter this basic truth.
