#Saintsfc are reportedly ‘very close’ to striking an agreement of €16m + €4m in bonuses with Napoli over striker Manolo Gabbiadini (Rai)
#Saintsfc and Napoli have reportedly been in extensive negotiations all this week. Club representatives could fly out to Italy this evening.
I hope that this isn’t one of those protracted negotiations that the club seem to get in to where the player turns out to be crap (and, no Lou, that’s not a bum or poo obsession)
Sounds like we are quibbling over £500K. You’d imagine that sort of fee wouldn’t be a deal breaker though. Will no doubt be dragged out until deadline day though.
that seems like a lot of money. He’s not even a first team regular and his goal scoring record isn’t great. I get nervous if we spend this sort of money. Hopefully this isn’t a panic buy and he’s genuinely worth it. I’m going to trust Les but if he’s shit then I’ll be joining SWF and going ballistic.
Plus the fact we have had bad experiences when recruiting from Italy. Gaston for instance.
It isn’t that much though in this day and age. He has caps for Italy and is only 25. Look at those Championship strikers like McCormack who went for around £15million, and now Brentford want a similar fee for Hogan. You’ve also got to expect a slightly artificially inflated price due to it being January.
It’s a crazy world srs. Never thought I’d see us pony up £17m for a fkn squad player, but then this is a world where Brentford (Brentford!) can ask £15m for some Hogan bro I’ve never even heard of, a world where 33yo CBs go for £8m, where Leicester want to pay £12m for fkn Gaston Ramirez, where clubs pay £15m for 30yo waste of space Ross McCormack who can’t even climb a 4ft fence. What you gonna do?
if I were les, I’d make it club policy to only sign non league players. We could sign hundreds/thousands of them for that sort of money and pay them a pittance. Then, if they’re shit we bin them off. I await some lily livered lefty twat to say this is no way to treat human beings.
Southampton have opened talks with Spartak Moscow over a loan deal for centre-back Serdar Tasci.
The 29-year-old former Germany international is ready to fly in this weekend.
Southampton are looking to cover the departure of Jose Fonte and the injured Virgil van Dijk who is out for three months.
Tasci’s most recent loan was to Bayern Munich from the Russian side who are currently five points clear at the summit of the Russian Premier League.
The German defender has pedigree having played 14 times for his country between 2008-10.
Tasci started his club career at Stuttgart where he spent eight years before moving on with a switch to Spartak.
He would offer Southampton an experienced option to the squad although Jack Stevens has handled himself admirably since being thrust into the Southampton line-up.
The young central defender helped his side to a clean sheet against Liverpool in the League Cup semi-final.
Despite Stevens’ performance it seems Claude Puel is looking to bolster the squad with some extra depth.
