⚽ 🔄 The January 2021 Transfer Thread

Have spoken to him…have you asked him? Everyone in football has a dream…even you.

Barry’s dream is Lee Cattermole kicking lumps out of the opposition (for 2 minutes then getting a straight red), Ricky van Wolfswinkel failing to score at the sharp end and various ageing journeymen picking up an end of career bonus before being carted off to the no profit knackers yard.

Not true but at least Cattermole could do some damage, if that was Stephens he’d fuck himself up.

We’ve spunked our profits on Carillo, Hoedt and many many many many many others.

We can’t dream, we have no dream, the only way to dream now is to administer a sleeping agent, our natural dreams have faded…

Ahem…

Add a weak melody line and a bunch of withered flowers and you’ve got the new hit from Morrissey. :+1::+1:

And where did those “profits” come from in the first place? Reed had his fair share of successes as well as failures.

They weren’t all down to him, also we’ve squandered money on really really shite signings.

…and of course every other club in the Premier League have had nothing but a gravy train of continuous and continual success. :lou_eyes_to_sky:

Every club has dropped a bollock in the transfer market and not all players are duds. Some just don’t work out at certain clubs. Many would have sold Vestergaard in the close season. Look at him now. Reed gets blamed for Carrillo but apparently that was down to the manager who wanted him out of a list of three. We have had some great successes in the transfer market as when as some major failures, but let’s just focus on the failures shall we?

I think I said on Saintsweb once that big money signings, 95 times out of hundred, fail to live up to expectations.

I got scorned for it but I stand by my statement.

But we haven’t even a dream!

What are we aspiring to?

The failures are the reason we can’t buy anyone, so of course we’ll focus on them, do you want to talk about VVD?

If you like. He was a massive failure wasn’t he?

Hmmm VVD, Clyne, Mane, Lovren all gambles for us that kept the club afloat a little longer.

Armstrong, KWP, Diallo, Vestergaard. All massive failures.

What a waste of money Ings was.

I can’t really understand why anyone would want to engage in conversation with someone as negative as you.

Don’t bother to answer…it was rhetorical.

Success in the transfer market is always difficult when you have instability in the manager’s position, now we have some stability and a plan we are seeing some better signings, in particular Diallo and KWP. Overall in the last 8 years I’d say our success in the transfer market (buying) was probably around 50%, which I think is pretty good.
