He did bring in another CH though didn’t he. Would you rather he bought someone for the sake of it rather than wait and get a proper target? As someone said, buying a player isn’t like walking into Tesco’s and picking one off of a shelf. I am sure we have any number of targets, how many want to leave their club, leave for our wages or leave for us is another issue. Barry spits his dummy out because the club doesn’t talk to him. The reason why is probably because anything that is said is usually used as a stick to beat them later.
I know I shouldn’t, but I’ll bite…
Isn’t Mr Gao now 80% owner? So surely it is him pocketing all the big bucks from selling and not replacing in this window, not Kat?
Secondly, my knowledge and experience of finance is clearly inferior to yours so please explain to me how his investment of £210m will fare if we get relegated in four months? Which is a very real possibility at this present time.
And don’t just throw ‘parachute payments’ in my face without explaining exactly how they work in protecting his investment.
Do you protect a £210m investment by simply HOPING that Shane Long, Mr One Goal in 36 games, or Nathan Redmond, Mr Zero Fucking Goals All Season, suddenly become prolific and score another ten goals each in the remaining games? That would be fucking stupid, whichever way you look at it.
The asset stripping argument surely only works if we are still in the division and still accumulating the obscene TV money.
So… why on Earth would they risk us going down by not attempting to buy better players than we already have? Given that we are in VERY real danger of that happening for more reasons than I care to bother re-writing. If we go down, who the fuck is going to buy the club for anywhere near £210m when the revenue coming in is nowhere near what it would be if we were still in the Premier League.
So for that reason alone I suspect there was genuine interest in Walcott. Whether that was realistically ever going to happen or not is another thing entirely. It probably boiled down to the fact that he will earn more money at Everton and will be all but guaranteed to be playing in the Premier League next year. We cannot offer the same money nor guarantees over which league we are going to be in at present, given our current predicament and atrocious inability to win football matches when going ahead. The club probably hoped that an emotional return to his roots would make up for the lower wages. As is often the case though, the world doesnt work that way.
He didnt replace Fonte in January so we could compete with Man U and win something. Whether Kat refused him the money I dont know but seems very likely.
Its not for the sake of it to say we needed two top CBs to play in the Premier league and Cup final. And you dont have to spit your dummy out everytime anyone questions the board and owners motives and smokescreens.
I think your point about not saying anything because it is used as a stick against them shows a complete misunderstanding of the Southampton Way. They wouldnt need to say anything if they actually did something that was good for the club and not their personal bank balances.
Buying a player ‘isnt like picking one off the shelf’ Well I know it isnt for me and you but if you are emplyed to actually do that job and further than that actually brag and talk about how good you are at it - then it should be.
What exactly is your point?
You seem to be arguing with an imaginary friend. I got to the bit and dont thow parachut payments in my face and decided to had lost it.
My point was far clearer. I think it would be reasonable for the club to say. 'We were after Theo but couldnt afford his wages".
Just like when Potechino said when we were after Cortinio. Much clearer and more honest
Never mind.
I am not spitting my dummy out but I do get tired of your constant need to find a stick to beat the club with. The club is not perfect, we know that (which one is?) but we are supposed to support it instead of picking it apart. Reed may not be the best at his job but he has done a lot better than a lot of others over the last few years. How often does he brag about it? You and Barry need to get your acts together. Barry is pissed off because Les doesnt talk to him and you seem pissed off because he talks too much. It is the job of the Board to talk the club up. If I had managed a club of our size to four top 8 finishes under the same circumstances I think I might be pleased with myself too. As for being good at picking players off the shelf, yes that it is job as it is all of his opposite numbers at all the other clubs, some with a much bigger wedge. The way you talk it would appear that we have been fighting off relegation for the last 4 years. I guess you are just on the wind up.
1 Kruger said my job is to work on the comercial side and increase revenue.
so where is this money? if he has failed to do this he should be brought to account
- Reed says are recruitment and academy are world class
The academy isnt pushing players into the first team and by that state of the under 23s last night was dire. Plus his failure recently to get the requred players in is unarguable
- Kat said to move Southampton to the next level we need more investment and that is why she sold 80 per cent
Well where is that investment for the next level? The only 'investment has gone into her account not the clubs
If we had players performing as badly as those three Im pretty sure thay would all be out the door and no one would be arguing. I think is is fair and reasonable to say they have failed to do their jobs to a reasonable standard. To use the example of Redmond. He came in last year and played reasonably well. In some of the Liverpool games he actually payed well. This season he is shit. What would people say if we sold him?. Im guessing not a lot. His only excuse is maybe the manager is making him shit. Either wat you look at it a change needs to be made.
That is my opinion and as I say I think it as reasonable as the man on the Clapham omnibus.
Have we signed Skacel yet?
Perfectly reasonable mate! I mean, it is mostly guessing though ain’t it? I mean, you can see the other side i.e.:
-
You don’t even know if kruegar has failed! You admit as much yourself!
-
We’ve got a good few from the academy m8. We could have a strong U23 if we wanted, you know, recall loanees, demote the ones in the first team, but it’s not very important. And I can’t blame Reed that the 8year olds we’ve recruited in last 5 years or whatever ain’t smashing up the first team yet. We’ll have to wait + see.
-
I didn’t expect, and didn’t want an owner who was gonna come in and throw money around from day one like i.e. the Everton bro.
Confusius say ‘‘bear not just shit in woods - bear very wise and knows his shit’’
Who the fuck’ believes this shit’? Someone on Sweb, Trump? Or is it May? I don’t think a single Saints fan believes a word Les or Ralph say. Are you serious about acting as though you are the only person who can see through the spiel?
Better late than never
Come again? I have been saying I wished Les would keep schtum (sp?) because he mostly talks bollocks or strokes his tumenecent ego for several years. Copped a fair bit of stick for it too. Not sure why your good self and Baz don’t go find some decent adversaries on Sweb. You’ll get plenty of cock nibbles there, there are two or three who’d be licking their lips at new meat.
NYS + B Sanchez = Plumbus
It would be a shame to see Gabba leave in January, but i can understand his frustration at being left on the bench if the style of play the Manager wants to impose doesn’t suit him.
I’m not sure how true this is but I have read that a deal was done for Walcott before the window opened but his agent wanted to wait and see if a better offer came in. It did from Everton, more than we were prepared to pay. I have mixed feelings about this as I am not sure we couldn’t have spent the money better elsewhere. We shall see!
That’s interesting. Assuming Saints fed their transfer targets to the Telegraph, I wonder what their thinking was for doing so? Were they trying to flush out interest early in the window so that they could conclude the deal quickly/leave themselves time to go for a second choice should he go elsewhere?
Would that theory work for the other players mentioned?
Perhaps the story was not supplied by Saints afer all and instead pieced together by the journalist from snippets supplied by the three agents involved?
Walcott is shit but we have the pulling power of an aged slapper in the playboy mansion.
