The January 2018 Transfer window:- speculation, rumours, dummy spitting, it's all here

He’s not fantastic but I wouldn’t describe him as shit. Reckon the second part is bang on and I love the way you put it. :joy:

3.5 year contract at, reportedly, £100k a week, not bad for some.

I reckon that makes roughly £17.5m over his Everton contract and people wonder why we didn’t sign him!!

Southampton look to conclude quick deal for Monaco’s Argentinian striker Guido Carrillo

I don’t think anybody is questioning why we didn’t sign him. What people are questioning is whether or not we were actually trying to sign him in the first place.

Gossip or smokescreen vs genuine target

Started off as gossip that got made into a smokescreen I would have thought!!

I’m not naive but I genuinely think we were in for him. Who needs a smokescreen when you’re going after some random bloke from Monaco who nobody has ever heard of? Who isn’t exactly in high demand.

Also, Big Fat Sam was directly quoted in an interview as saying “I think we all know who we are competing against” at the time when we were the bookies favourite and were being heavily linked with him.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/01/12/sam-allardyce-confirms-negotiations-sign-theo-walcott-arsenal/amp/

“Everton have started negotiating with Arsenal for Walcott, but are in a fight with his former club Southampton.“We have got a chance. It is fair to say we all know who we are competing with,” said Allardyce.

“It is not a secret that we are not competing against another club in the Premier League. There is no point trying to keep it a secret.”

You guys are clearly a hard sell but I’m convinced we tried but came up short.

It looks to me that he was a target, but Sturridge wasn’t.

Jezza has spoken:

Sorry Bob, just realised you’d already shared that above.

Agent talk to up the wages??

Not for me.

Pellegrino was asked several times and never denied interest. He could have done if it was just agent talk or bollox.

I suspect Pellegrino will be asked in his press conference tomorrow/Friday and his answer will probably be telling. That said, if he denies it I’ll argue we are trying to save face!

I’m confused Simon. Doesn’t the highlighted word say it wasn’t us?

Onto real signings. I’ve been playing dot to dot transfers and now have a picture*.

We(Pellegrino) want Argentinian forward Carrillo , but Bob’s article states not only who we want up front but this as well.

As well as Carrillo, Southampton want to add a creative wide player who can add pace to their team.

Wonder if there’s an Argentinian player available that fits the bill? Marca say yes.

The involvement of Atletico Madrid in the January transfer market is set to come to an end following the departure of Nico Gaitan.

So no CB but one good player and a tall bloke.

*my picture claims no resemblance to reality(a bit like art).

I think that is Allardyce being a bit of a spastic in the way in which he speaks. Let’s just watch the next press conference and see.

Now that’s proper rumour and speculation. None of your Theo shit. This is the thing transfer threads are made of.

People have suggested that Jez is our contact in the press etc. Surprised therefore that no one’s commented on his ‘pellegrino job under extreme scrutiny’ bit in this article.

Possibly because we aren’ fiverweb we all actually knew that?

Unless you believe we’re run by idiots

I wouldn’t say Pap & Bletch were idiots.

I think you should apologise.
