I can sort of understand the implied insult, people performing for tips at traffic lights in the same way we had windscreen cleaners or flower sellers at junctions. Beyond that, I can’t imagine how it could be a racial slur.
That said, I can’t get my head round “DVD” being a racist slight either, and fans have been banned for using that one against Asian players here. Apparently it’s a reference to selling DVDs from a market stall, which I’m struggling to view as racism.
