It’s what the monopolies and mergers comission always does, they decide that someone has too much of a monoploy and get it farmed out. Different providers get the deals and now, suddenly, you have to pay for (minimum) 2 packages to watch the same amount of football.
No doubt the providers will soon try PPV on top of the subscription fee as well, as per the boxing.
Once upon a time, some businessmen saw an amusement ride they quite liked. The ride looked excellent, and if anything, it was under-priced. Ordinary working class people could go every week.
Even if they couldn’t, footage of the best bit of the rides was available for free. Sometimes they’d put an entire ride on terrestrial TV for free.
They also saw that the ride was having financial difficulties. The government had recently mandated that those riding in the top division had to sit down, greatly reducing the number of people on the ride.
The solution was to make the ride much more appealing and much more expensive. Sure, this seats won’t make money if we price them for the working class, so we’ll price them for the middle class instead.
This free to air TV stuff? Nonsense. The ride needs to be exclusive and elusive. One way or another, every fan will pay more for these games. They have no choice!
Except the Internet fucked all that. People have less money for rides, and now that they’ve seen how much they were a part of that ride, they realise they’ve been taken for the proverbial ride.
