Women weaken legs!

Rumblings about step-aside money for both AJ and Whyte so that Fury vs Usyk can happen.

£15m for AJ and £5m for Whyte, apparently. One of the things that might be giving this legs is that there is no hard date for the AJ/Usyk rematch yet. When he was done over by Ruiz he had his re-match organised within two months.

£15 is a bit harsh on AJ.

Edited, thanks.

But probably too much based on the last performance. Heard him described as a spent force last night. His head’s definitely not in the right place for a quick rematch and I think he is announcing a new trainer.

Even though there was no boxing in January, I’ve enjoyed keeping up with the heavyweight division. It’s better than EastEnders for drama.

There has been loads of talk about step-asides for AJ, and rightly so. Hearn was out there actively considering it until last week.

The funnier and more provable story surrounds the Fury vs Whyte bout. It goes a little like this.

  • WBC make Whyte the mandatory
  • Whyte, a free agent but working with Eddie Hearn, wants something like 45% of the purse. Fury apparently offer to start talks at 25%, Whyte refuses so Fury retract that and offer 20%.
  • The WBC rules that the split should be 80%/20% in Fury’s favour.
  • Eddie Hearn says “that’s okay, we can just go to purse bids”, meaning that if Hearn won the rights to stage the fight, the split can be revised.
  • Eddie Hearn puts in a $32 million bid, higher than any other bid in boxing history
  • … Except for Frank Warren, who put in a $41 million bid.
  • Eddie Hearn and Dillian Whyte go missing

As I said, better than EastEnders and they haven’t even cuffed each other up yet.

Very much enjoyed the Khan vs Brook fight. It has been an interesting build up with a lot of needle remarked upon. It was very one-way. Kell Brooks really wanted this. Khan got a pay-check. Nice reaction from the pair of them after so much confected animosity.

Absolutely made up for Natasha Jonas, really deserving of being World Champion, the Khan-Brook fight was a great fight and made up for Brook, Khan looked down on him for a decade and wouldn’t give him the fight so its just deserts.

Thought that fight ended too early, but what do I know? Perhaps the referee saw something in Namu’s eyes.

Thought the same about the Khan fight to be honest. Both could have been battered a little more.

I feel a bit like Mr Burns from the Simpsons. “Back in my day if a fight lasted less than 150 rounds we’d ask for our nickel back”

Derek Chisora on one. Glorious.

Josh Taylor gets an absolutely shocking decision over Catterall. Every commentator and pundit had him losing by at least 3 rounds, including a 10-8, but one judge gave it 3 to Taylor an the other by one.

Fucking robbery.

I was actually out of the house for this one, so didn’t see it. Was it PPV?

No. Normal SkySports.

To say that was a bad decision is a mild understatement, Taylor wasn’t classy at all afterwards either, Boxing lost a lot of neutral fans tonight with that farce,
