I looked up Leonard/Hearns on youtube the other evening. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Watching Fury vs Chisora 2.
Why the fuck did Chisora come to the ring dressed as a flag?
I mean, weâve seen flag shorts see see success at the end of Rocky III, but has he not seen Rocky IV?
Full flag == too much.
So Iâve just watched AJ vs Klitscho.
Fucking hell, AJ. You the man.
This Tyson vs AJ thing is going to be fucking interesting.
Fury broke Klitscho 2 years earlier. Job was done for AJ.
Cant agree there goaty old chap.
Fury got in Wladimirâs head before their fight and his style bamboozled him but it definitely wasnât a beating in any shape or form. In fact there wasnât much punishment taken at all.
The Klitschko that fought AJ in my humble opinion was the best version weâd seen in a long time. He was motivated, more aggressive, light on his feet for his size and ready to go.
That made the AJ victory at that relatively early stage of his career more impressive than itâs being given credit for. The 6th round punch he took from Wlad wouldâve stopped a lot of heavyweights but AJ got up and found a way to recover, regroup and eventually win.
Thatâs what I mean by broke him. First defeat in 22 fights over 10 years. Fury made him look like an amateur.
It will be a shame if we donât get to see Fury v AJ in the near future. Huge fight.
I watched both fights. Different beasts.
Fury didnât let Wlad settle at all, kept him nervous and ended up winning by rinsing and repeating that. I did not get the sense that Klitscho had been battered at the end of that fight, just beaten comprehensively on the night. I loved Klitschoâs arms shooting down as the announcement was made.
Never felt Fury was in trouble, which was one of the reasons it was such an impressive performance.
AJ had to dig that win out. What a dig.
I can remember staying up super-late to watch the Bruno vs Tyson fight.
I can also remember the years of âBritishâ hopefuls like Lennox Lewis.
It is incredibly cool to have two bonafide Brit fighters at the top of the heavyweight game.
Iâm just thankful for the twats in Ireland that wouldnât let Fury be an Irishman
Also Gary Mason. Limited but could certainly punch.
Good interview here about Fury vs Wilder II.
Many of the comments made could easily be applied to the Furyâs fight against Klitscho too.
So my boxing odyssey continues. I have watched a fuckload of boxing during the last six months. Started off looking at Furyâs fights, but have since been all over the heavyweight division and have had a look at some fights from other weight bands.
I am really not impressed by Wilder, and that one thing doesnât really make it up, because itâs pretty much the only thing.
Deontay Wilder is like the Flying Head Chop move from the 80âs computer game Barbarian (Palace Software). Didnât matter how low you were on life. Pull off that one move and youâve won.
Its because he is a gypsy fighter ie donât get hit and hit on counter, also Furyâs muscle movement twitching is second to none, watch all travellers fight and they fight counter punch, makes for boring fights but very effective, examples are Hughie Fury, Billie Joe Saunders.
Donât know about that. Did you watch the second Wilder fight? Fury fought on the front foot and pushed him back for the whole fight. Got his shots off first and bullied the bully. The opposite of counter punching.
Because Fury had the measure of him from the first.
Fury has the measure of most people. Thatâs how he wins. There have only been a few fights of his Iâve watched where he has not taken the opponent seriously, not something that is a hallmark of his later career.
Heâs also got a good chin. Not many would have gotten up from that knockdown to come back fighting.
Its his twitching and reactions that win him fights, he has also improved massively since he started.
It was his lack of twitching on the floor after getting floored that made the biggest difference in the first fight.
I suspect what you mean by âtwitchingâ are feints, and I will agree. They confused the fuck out of Wladimir and probably didnât compute for Deontay, whose only fucking game is being a coiled spring until he gets his punch on.
What you canât take away from Tyson Fury is that he wins those fights almost exactly as he calls them in the press conferences.
