The 2017 Election Thread

Personally I don’t see what TV debates actually do, they’re really there for the zealots that know what party they’re going to vote for anyway.

I doubt if your normal man on the street will watch them as they’re not very engaging are they?

_Unless _May also takes part.

I’m not sure whether it is the wisest course of action, but you can see why, in the light of Miliband’s Cameron-less performance. They’re also looking to reinforce the message that it’s a fight between Labour and the Tories, which is not going to happen if Corbyn is merely up against the minnows.

He might even look like a minnow himself.

Like I said, I’m not sure it’s the best move, but it’ll definitely be for the zealots without the biggest players in the game.

If even pap is talking about maybe, almost thinking about making a slight criticism on something corbyn done, then it must be v.stupid indeed. That is when I knew it was srs.

I’d like to see televised debates between all main party leaders made mandatory in general elections along the lines of those in the US Presidential campaigns. May talks about getting out and talking to people, but she can reach millions more people this way. And if she really is the best person to lead this country, let her prove it against the other contenders. We live in a media driven world. Use it.

The leader debates are shite - they were shite when they all turned up. They were shite when some of them didn’t.

Its PMQs without the back benchers howling away.

No real substance, just a load of sound bites and bitching

There’s loads I think he could have done better. In his defence, he’s been hampered by the situation. I realise that he had to try the collegiate approach, but in hindsight, that looks like a mistake. His ability to be as vocal about Palestine as he was pre-leader have been massively hindered by the toxic, McCarthyist and quite ludicrous situation created by the Israeli embassy and pals.

On this, I’m genuinely not sure. May’s whole play is essentially “I’m above this shit. Let them bicker”. The best case is that Corbyn is doing the same to achieve some kind of PR parity with the public.

A smart move by Corbyns team I think. The broadcasters want it and have just been told, no head to head with May, no go. Surely the hope is that they turn their attention on Mays fear of debating Corbyn.

It’s possibly the only way to get the media to turn against the tories and shows May’s “strong and stable” bullshit to be “run and hide” when faced with anything challenging(remember the referendum). Showing the lie in that bullshit statement(that every tory is repeating in every sentence they say) would have a massive impact psychologically on the electorate.

Got to be honest, it’s the one debate i would love to see and May with her shadowy existence and fear driven refusal is only going to make it more popular.

Mugwump = word of the day

Means a person who is unable to make up their mind, especially in politics

I sometimes think the Boris would be better off just saying “Jezza is indecisive” rather than have us all reaching for dictionaries

Not going to help the SNPs cause considering they look after education up there

Is it me, or is striking for half of May a wee bit irresponsible with regards to the kids in the run up to their exams?

A word for himself then.

I Notice he got the “strong and stable” lie in. But the best bit was this.

Just when Kim Jong-un is on the verge of acquiring a really deadly nuclear weapon.

Is he a bit simple?

To be fair, I wouldnt be keen on a not so deadly nuclear weapon

It’s a soundbite - and a clever one at that. That is all Corbyn will be known as going forward.

Indeed, he is the Tories very own mugwump. Mind you, they have a few others too.

Why is it clever? Do you think people will remember it and start repeating it? It just highlights how far removed he is from real people. Explain you’re reasoning please.

I think Corbyn is right on Trident. No one in this country is going to adopt a first strike policy, so why pretend that we would? Our so called nuclear deterrent is bollocks. It does nothing in the fight against terrorism and as everyone knows that we wont use it first, is a complete wast of time and money. Money that could be spent, as the sides of coaches told us in the EU referendum, on the NHS for example. If. God forbid, there is another nulcear war, this small lump of rock with be ashes before anyone gets around to fighting back. We are just clinging on to the outdated notion that we are a world power still. No we are not. We are just lap dogs to the US. So let them spend what they like on the hardware and lets get on with living a more sane existance.

I am not even sure we really have it bear. I mean has anyone actually seen it? I used to see the nuke subs going up the Clyde and everyone was like “uch eye ya we baw bag, that’s a nuclear sub fur when the English really take the piss, we’ll steal them and blow the shite oot a them.” but we never really got to see the nukes. It’s easier just to say sorry disabled people, there is no cash for you, we have spent it on nukes, rather than, there is no cash for you and we are not really sure where the cash has gone, ask Blair on his yacht.

I shouldn’t be at all surprise tokyos, but first rule of Tridents Club, is don’t talk about not really having Tridents. You are major Security Risk with what you’ve just said. I think you can prob expect a First Strike by return.
