šŸ‡¦šŸ‡« Taliban retake Afghanistan

How long would the animals have to quarantine for and who would pay for that?

That has been covered by the Veterinary Association and the public here in the UK. The vets here have everything ready to care for the animals from the moment they land. Should also add DEFRA have been working with NOWZAD from the beginning to make sure this all happens

Like I said a PR fail.

I do agree though that getting his staff & families out is a moral issue. No comment is the right one, other than a lot of people getting out are entering the airport via a different route due to contacts with influence.
As always.
Pen is just another example of that but a Brit influencer.
Do they have more rights than the guards at the Embassy? Or translators who worked for sub contractors.
The details are debatable.
Still wont look good when pics of dead puppies appear on Social Media.
:man_facepalming: is the best emoji for all of it

And that is why the spare places in the plane were for those people. But apparently we cannot rescue people, too busy rescuing a car FFS

I’m not sure its the spare places that is the issue, more whether those charity workers and families should be placed in front of those who have worked for the embassies and security forces who are arguably more at risk

May be a moot point after the tetetubby presser.
No more Afghans allowed to go to airport

If only the withdrawal had been announced a year ago & people knew it was coming and DID something instead of debated and looked into it.
Oh.
Wait.

That is just SO depressing. So stereotypical. Brit TELLING Johnny Foreigner what they must do.

Sigh.
Bet the FCO & guys on the ground were overjoyed

I’m posting this link

Not to make ANY critique or comment on either Trump or Biden, but to ask one simple question.

Why the Fvck did EVERY other Nation on the planet wait until last week to start getting volumes of their vulnerable ā€œhelpersā€ out?

I go back to 9/11 and the probability of Gulf War 2.
While watching the events on CNN I was on the phone to our HR VP in Ireland. Next morning he was on the phone. That lunchtime, the Irish Embassy (in Saudi) contacted me directly. That afternoon I instructed all my team to get photocopies of the passports of all their family members living in Dubai.
Next morning they were sent to Saudi, that afternoon they emailed me the Emergency Visa forms.
Day 3 all applications were completed and sent by DHL along with Passports
Day 5 all were returned with Visas and Open Single Tickets were booked. The HR VP had also contacted a Charter Flight Company as a back up

IT WAS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

In the end nothing happened and we didn’t need to run. But we were all packed and ready.
Yet still this last week, UK Gov were ā€œallowing more peopleā€ to apply.
January 2020 - 17 months of obfuscation.
It makes me angry. That doesn’t happen very often

Rhetoric is wonderful - I do wonder how much is coming from the taliban side. If the coalition forces stay beyond 31st are they going to start shooting? Start killing US troops and things would start to become uncomfortable for the Taliban leadership real quick

And just what are 8,500 troops in an airfield with a Logistics chain that can be cut off by a left over Stinger Missile expected to do?

Meanwhile

I suspect it will be more in the vein of a tomahawk missile through the front door of the presidential palace

And then what?
Look, I have similar feelings, but…
Let’s HEAR what is being said.
Taliban 2 MAY be different to Taliban 1.0. Why? They have spent 20 years in Qatar and other locations. Qatar will have had SOME (even minor) influence on them - as we see from the tellytubby PR.
They SAY they will hold talks on a unified Government (actually considering the ā€œalleged corruptionā€ of the last 20 years that MAY be a better thing than before.)
Sure, "Western Values may be held back but are those Afghan values?
An example is Cricket - tellytubbies want to make the Afghan team BETTER. That is different. Women are still presenting on TV - OK so no make up but in reality is that worth a Maverick Missile response?
I am not ā€œapologisingā€ but China, Russia and Turkey are adopting a wait and see attitude.
Boris is telling them what to do.
I can tell you now, the only thing a Tomahawk/Maverick will achieve will be deaths of Western civilians.
It MAY be needed in a month or a year, but not this week

I agree - but this is down to the yella fella in the White House. He will not commit more troops whatever the cost. So if US lives are lost, the only option available to him which doesn’t mean he is portrayed as a massive pussy (his ego won’t allow that) is cruise missile diplomacy

Oh look…

My shock level knows no bounds
