True they went on & did Zimbabwe as well and thats it.
So sort of part of the last filming.
Absolutely brutally horrific
A show with almost zero character development because nobody comes back from missions.
How did they do that day after day?

Capaldi is superb is he evil, mistaken or a victim?
Cush Jundy wallows with the right amout of indignation
It hits hard into racism, misogyny Police corruption and right wing groups
Simple and claustrophobic and brilliantly written/acted
Have watched first 3 episodes- very Inbetweeners - loads of potential
Blood & Gold
Netflix
âAt the bitter end of World War II, a German deserter and a young woman are drawn into a bloody battle with a group of Nazis hunting for hidden gold.â
Stay with me - Itâs very much a stylised Tarantino-esque / spaghetti western but in WW2
Loads of violence / very funny stuff / sad stuff but worth the watch.
Oh, itâs in German ( right until the end) but donât let that stop you.

Masters of the Air continues to be a brutal watch - this week more mental.
And also (itâs been slow on my part) the realisation that it is based on a true story
The 'Bloody 100th' Bomb Group.
And this week there really was a âhang on a minuteâ checks Google moment.
Yeah, itâs based on the book by Donald Miller. A good read, which I just finished, but imho itâs not a great book. Plenty of better war historians
Give it a read. His modern prejudices and revisionism pop up mid a good historical analysis though - really irritating, but lends itself to a tv series.
This is why I couldnât put my finger on why it isnât ( the tv series) as good as Band of Brothers, which originated from a combatants own memoirs.
The key differences
- Most aircrew are now dead or close to 100 so they cannot do the breaks and descriptions
- They canât develop characters because IRL they died too quick
Maybe
There is plenty of testimony out there from the survivors though. Plenty of post war biographies and analysis written closer to the actual events, by people who lived it or were able to interview people who did.
But it is unfortunately based on what includes a a fair bit of revisionist thought. That doesnât do any favours to the flight crews that went through hell. Very American, and I suspect parts of it were written with one eye on a tv deal, but doesnât sit well with me.
Imho obviously.
Disney + have made a series out of James Cavellsâ book ShĂ´gun
Back in the 80s, the film version was a VERY BIG THING.
Iâm 36 minutes in to Ep1 it is so far a wonder.
Japanese & some Portugese all in sub titles.
Hiroyuki Sanada just exudesâŚ
Reviews are off the charts, hopefully this is an event show as, at the time, the book was

Napoleon - Crapple TV
Joaquin Phoenix as the short fella.
Bloody long - glad I didnât go to watch it in the cinema.
Sadly I did go. 5/10 from me at best
It wasnât shit.
It was worth watching if you didnât pay for it and nothing else was on and you hadnât started an X Files Binge yet
Finally finished For All Mankind
Overall pretty good, some duff episodes to get through though.
Are you still fantasising about Gillian Anderson?
Nothing wrong in that
I am still thinking about Jenny Agutter
Walkabout or Call The Midwife?
