Didn’t mind the first series, but it was no Sopranos.

Got bored pretty quickly into the second.

I have a guilty pleasure.

Colony on Netflix.

It is “Light Entertainment” for late evenings when I want the brain to stop thinking and down a vodka to get me to sleep.

A very American (LA based) Fluffy PG rated show.
“Something” “The Arrival” has happened to Earth & LA is hanging on from going full dystopian. It is no secret that “aliens” may be involved but there we go to reveals and so no spoilers

The “Drama part” is supplied by a horribly stereotypical wife who “IS JUST TRYING TO KEEP THE FAMILY TOGETHER” all the time (ie dumb bitch instead of strong willed unfortunately). There is some “Police Type” Some “Revolution Tyupe” and some “Street Smart” stuff that goes on around the “Drama” so it is an OK package

But around that it is a show that starts with you completely in the dark and does very slow reveals over 10 episodes.

It isn’t shit. It is not boring, I don’t laugh at it (other than dumb bitch for being that dumb)

And tbh as those gradual reveals “reveal” it gets a bit more interesting and a bit darker hmmm. There is a bit more to it than fluff as I get into S2.

Is it must see? no.
Should you watch Cobra Kai with the other half first? Hell Yes. But if you want something to switch the brain off to that doesn’t send you to sleep too early
It’s OK I enjoy it. Pau Guillefoyle (from House) plays the slimy Politico quite well.

The Karate Kid is one of the most loved movies of the 80’s. The underdog kid, The lovable (RIP) Mr Miyagi, the ending. All buried deep in even Mrs P_F’s DNA.

So I was greatly underwhelmed when I saw Netflix advertising Cobra Kai. Seemingly yet another reboot of an old story to fill air time. I avoided it like the plague.

Then my daughter started on at me how the whole family (inc the Grandson) watched it avidly every evening and had fallen in love to the extent that Grandson is adamant he WILL have Karate Lessons. I assumed this was a Kid thing and was told, no, he started watching because WE love it.

I ignored them - SiL is a Spurs fan after all.

Then daughter told Mrs P_F to watch it. I was ambushed.

Episode 1 yeh, Drunk loser, old car blah blah, HIgh School losers , bullies. I googled the show. Wait what? (As I posted before).

This is not a hammy reboot. It is a beautifully and lovingly visit back to Rosita to meet the ORIGINAL cast 16 years after the story.

It is funny. It takes the piss out of itself but with love. It is a story of lives and souls wasted. Of bloody minded stupidity and old grudges. It is a tale of redemption, but without it being fluffy and easy.

It is without a doubt absolutely marvelous “Light Entertainment”

It is never going to compete with The Boys or The Expanse, but it does hit the heart strings and it does take the story forward with love and we are the better for watching it.

You don’t NEED to rewatch the original movie first (As long as you have actually seen it) because it carefully takes flashbacks from the film into the present and in fact that is a part of the joy as that old story is brought back to the front of your mind.

It isn’t cutting edge, equally it isn’t sentimental high school movie schitt. It is almost a pastiche, a cariacture of itself. We laugh at the most stupid things in it because they are so “wrong yet right”

It is the continuing story of the Karate Kid and what happens to us all IF we let our dreams fade and die.

Fantastic show

Aha. That explains a lot.
Colony Director is Olatunde Osunsami.
Who was also involved with Falling Skies.
Which is where the comfort zone vibe came from. Different but.
He also worked on some Short Treks & Star Trek Disco more recently.

I’m up to S2 Ep10. The canvas gets bogged down with dumb bitch & kids and a bit of cop *ish) stuff, but the back story moves forwards.
Still enjoying.

(Yes. It has stopped raining. Yes the bloke has got back on his Bike and has put some juice back in the village internet)
Yes I have Vodka

The Boys - bringing the drama back into courtroom drama.

OTT wasn’t it ?!! :joy:

Watching the new Spitting Image on Britbox, which I’ve just signed up to so I can watch the new Spitting Image.

It’s very good and feels just like the 1980s version in terms of the jokes it tries to land. The Dominic Cummings character is a work of fucking genius.

It should never have been taken off the air.

Stumbled across Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys

A bit of a hagiography of S2 by episode.

Very American but some interesting behind the scenes info.

Lots of swearing and irreverence at the start but peters out a bit as things go on.

Last episode of the series this coming Friday, but hints of S3

Brave New World😛

Blimey.

Is that a recommendation?

Means softpornhub wont show on your search history

Brave New World takes Huxley’s classic into a future extrapolated from today.

Happiness is everything. Monogamy & family are evil. Relationships are not a thing.
Your course is set when the genetic engineer prepares your embryo.
CGI visuals create a proper fantasy future world.
For relaxation citizens can visit a theme park where natural born human actors scrape a living.
There you go. The story can now unravel.
Suffice to say the futureweb films and logs everything so we start off with some 3D movie-love making which is a problem as everyone is supposed to just have casual sex and take drugs.
So yes, blimey, the drug fuelled nightclub orgy reminded me of a few parties I always heard about but never got invited to.
Some highly attractive people get their kit off & get it on.

It’s literature so its allowed

Sounds like one for the lads…Ladyslowlane is such a sensitive soul. :kissing_smiling_eyes:

I presume Lady Slowlane can vaguely recall The Karate Kid (original).
IF she has seen it then sit yourselves down with a glass of something & enjoy Cobra Kai.

Certainly not…it sounds very vulgar, much too vulgar for our refined palate.

If it had been entitled “Ju Jitsu Child” a story of young ones journey through the learning path to Olympic medal winning glory, then perhaps we would have found that more to our taste. Thank you for thinking of us all the same.

Um…
How did you know the plot without watching it?
But you did miss out on the whole “redemption” angle

P.S. it has a great 80’s rock soundtrack

That clinches it…grim is the word…GRIM. :lou_facepalm_2:

Brave New World :rage:
Had to wait 13 minutes of episode 2 for the mass orgy.
Then cant believe Demi Moore doesn’t get her kit off ffs.
Then the big…

It is rather good.

I do fully understand your situation. As an expat I often forget it is not “the done thing” to allow ones spouse to smile at something on the TV.
Obviously being a Saints fan you have endured over a century of realising TV = Pain.
I defer.

Meanwhile BNW is (unfortunately) rather more than some very pleasant Bewbs. It has a damned plot and FFS a message.
#hooked

Brave New World would seem to fit the brief we try to set out for “entertainment”. As you rightly suggest smiling at TV “entertainment” is a frippery we have long eliminated in favour of our endless quest for education. You’re never too old to add information to the frontal lobe.
