Yep, maybe the writers could have done a better job. Maybe less physicality this series because the actor playing Burnham was pregnant, maybe? Covid having an impact?, probably.
And even die hard Kurtzman haters are saying the latest Prodigy episode is one of the finest, reducing many āparentsā to having something in their eye and getting the kids to ask about (no spoilers)
Itās more accurate to say that Iāve seen much better stuff and that Discovery is nowhere near it. Leaving aside the 90s Trek, with all four seasons appearing positively classy in the wake of recent efforts, Iām also just about to wrap up The Expanse - which is a series that doesnāt cheat and strokes the intelligence rather than insult it.
In the intervening years, we had Battlestar Galactica, which was four solid years of a show really saying something. All the best sci-fi is saying something about the present times, and I just donāt get what Discovery is trying to say.
Right, so Iāll have a big fucking moan about all the Star Trek people seem to like but I am now going to be a complete hypocrite. Iāve just watched the first episode of Star Trek : Prodigy. Itās made for kids. It seems to have ripped off both Babylon 5 and Star Wars and its characters seem to be made from the strongest archetypes available. 100% proof.
But I fucking loved it.
The rip offs seem to be respectful homages, the little spider-like things that resemble the Shadows, the non-corporeal character in an environment suit and the general resemblance in art direction and tone of the Clone Wars.
Iāll get a bit fucked off if the non-corporeal character ends up explaining all of religion though
