🖖 Star Trek returning to small screens :starfleet:

Vger?

What?

Seems Star Trek Disco is being show live on Pluto.

On at 8.59pm tonight (think it may also be repeated on Sat & Sun)

Yep, Friday, Sat and Sun at 9pm.

If @tigger’s reports of him letting himself go are accurate, will he make the weight for captain or will he be playing a very large tribble?

It is worth watching then we can actually discuss spoilers!

Too many Twatter posts, too little time.

Watching it with Mrs C_S and YoungAdult#1 tomorrow because……they are now watching….Gogglebox :man_facepalming:

I’m going to watch last Cowboy Bebop.

Ok - watched Ep1 on Pluto followed by unexpected Ep2.

All a bit smiley and right-on aspirational space porn tbh.

Good to watch mind you.

Not worth even trying to dissect as per trekkies seem to be doing. Too much time on their hands or it’s their hobby.

Good entertainment pure and simple.

Didn’t realise it was filmed Covid-secure back in the day while filming - hence lack of lots of people in scenes.

There is a theme among trekkies that Covid has improved Disco, as now we have more one on one moments or more than a single sound bite.
More depth to relationships and characters eg Stammets & Book.

Enjoyable space porn, but a nagging voice keeps saying Vger in the back of my mind.

Watching Ep3 on Pluto

Seems each week they’re also showing next 2 episodes straight after. Good for a binge or a disciplined old school one a week job.

???
Last week was supposed to be catch up hence 2 episodes. Ep 3 only one released in US cannot believe they would jump ahead of them

Errrm…just watched ep3.

Next episodes were lined up on live tv.

Feel free to look on Pluto TV :man_shrugging:t3:

And done in homage.

But we are on series 4, right?

I’ve finally had a look at Season Four of Discovery and have watched the first episode. Oh dear, and it’s such a shame. Just when you think they might have planted the seeds for a couple of successful seasons, they revert to the big fuck off existential threat.

It’s a shame because deep in that episode, there is a kernel of classic Trek-that-feels-like-Trek, but the accompaniment is so loud that it drowns the main themes of the episode out.

e.g. boss evaluates Captain. Happens all the time in Trek, but this time, it’s not just any boss. It’s the goddamn president of the Federation. It’s just ridiculous and the show’s attempts to acknowledge and account for it were not convincing.

You can have that exact same plot, the exact same tension but make the circumstances far less stupid. All you need then is a B plot, and here it’s the rescue of a crew from a spinning space station, but once again, it’s just done all too big.

Remember that episode where the episode was just about whether Data was sentient or not? I miss that sort of Trek, especially because it wasn’t nicking its threat wholesale from The Expanse.

You’re gonna love Ep’s 5 & 6 then

Is it where every hack writer has gone before?
