But werenât the original Kirk era Star Trek Vulcans Irish Leprechauns?
Edit: Not Vulcans, Klingons ffs

Not sure. Never seen the original show too much.
However, as groundbreaking as it was, not much is left over. The Klingons looked like white blokes with a Marmite coating until Star Trek : The Motion picture.
itâs also worth remembering that in the old days, they did not dream up the holodeck, so theyâd just flat out land on a planet which was exactly like Earth except it had 1930s gangsters, Romans or Nazis on it.
Basically whatever was filming in the next studio lot
The one thing it did do very well was the Romulans. TNG and all the series that followed it also did the Romulans, and they did them well.
Itâs a bit like the Roman empire that Romulus is inspired by. No one marched on Rome until someone did. No one fucked up the Romulans until Picard did
Purists love it. A lot of it is really, really cringeworthy to the modern eye. If you can find a potted history of it then do watch it - itâll explain a lot.
I watched a lot of the re-runs as a nipper. Cutting edge stuff back in the day. Just watch the Tribbles episode
Oh, and Ryn - he looks nothing like the Andorians in Archerâs Enterprise- Donât start me on the correct shade of blue!!
If only someone had mentioned a preponderance of blue in this seriesâŚ
Cant believe @pap missed the whole Brother by another mother thing either. Lots of plot gaps to hang the episode on but that wasnt one of them
Oh shit.
Someone wrap @pap in cotton wool & ice.
Just seen next weeks synopsis.
He might explode
Heâs going to go ballisticâŚ
In days of Yor
I did not see this weekâs synopsis, so was pleasantly surprised to see Georgiouâs trip to get her head fixed turn into a Mirror Universe episode, especially because (drum roll) Discovery has the best Mirror Universe in all of Trek.
You can see that theyâve riffed on the stuff that Enterprise set up, in the great two parter In A Mirror Darkly. The show also built its first season around it.
Iâve always found it very impressive that they manage to find actors that look exactly like their Prime Universe counterparts. Itâs uncanny. Maybe the showrunners have a portal to the Terran Empire of today.
Yep, Fam C_S enjoyed it
Bit miffed it carries on to the next episode.
Weâre on to The Expanse tomorrow - would have started tonight but @YoungAdult#1 has gone to bed after a 12 hour day being an elf at Chessington Garden Centre, not World Of AdventuresâŚ
Eh?
What did I miss?
David Cronenberg with Dr Culber. Explains how human molecules want to return to their own time. Culber is horrified Disco crew is at risk. DC Opens a classified security file and explains only happens when time travel AND Crossing Dimensions.
Then introduces hologram of Yor who was a Temporal Agent who crossed from an alternative timeline caused by a Romulan mining ship.
Trek nerds exploded on tâinnerweb.
Star Fleet authorised Euthanasia to ease his sufferingâŚ
We got Prime, Terran & Kelvin in one show
I knew the link was there only caught it fully on 2nd watching
Perhaps everyone else has missed something then. Why wasnât this canon anyway?
The original Spcok was in the 2009 movie. The Romulus destroyed in that movieâs Prime Universe is still destroyed.
Vulcan still exists in the Prime Universe.
Not sure why everybodyâs excited. It always had actual on-screen ties into Prime. It just never lasted that long onscreen because it was shite.
Thatâs how canon it is.
As I said earlier, Fam C_S enjoyed watching the last episode. Watched and enjoyed it for what it was, entertainment, escapism, call it what you will. Not losing any sleep over this whataboutery tbh.
As an episode, didnât mind it at all.
Even the matey sat on his own reading the newspaper was a nice touch. I wondered if he might be part of the Q Continuum.
Certainly he was in the tradition of beings powerful enough to just fit in Star Trek and work.
The Kelvin timeline was a missed opportunity. Donât mind it being there. but theyâd fucked it so badly by Into Darkness that it was dead. No one wants to make Star Trek IV and Discovery went out of its way (a whole season out of its way, in fact) just to say that it was Prime.
Gladi wasnt the only one thinking Q Continuum!
Ditto
Oooh.
