šŸ–– Star Trek returning to small screens :starfleet:

@BTripz is correct.

A very much improved episode, almost gripping even.

Very enjoyable

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Low bar to clear. Like, so low, I could fucking clear it.

You’ll have my review by the 'morrow

It was pretty good. Classic Trek episode in many ways. Land on a planet. Meet some folk. Help some folk. Leave upholding the principles of Starfleet.

Mostly though, it was good because it was clear and was not especially dumb. Very dialogue driven; I particularly liked seeing the whole time traveller chat play out. Less is more. The season two take would have had that information revealed on a piece of shrapnel hurtling toward the screen on an exploding ship.

I’ve always liked the crew. I was a big fan of much of season one, although I did ponder how the fuck they could maintain their claims of this being in the Prime Universe.

The answer was ā€œnot convincinglyā€. It was called Discovery Season 2, and was dumb as fuck.

Frankly, I don’t know why the showrunners ever bothered fucking about around Kirk’s timeline in the first place. They could have started the show right here, with no prior explanation, and these two episodes would have worked.

That’s it @pap , dialogue driven

Me, Mrs C_S and YoungAdult#1 said that was key.

Also they thought it was fantastic that it was almost all female driven, which I felt before they said it .

And being pedantic diverse Female driven.
Interesting to see if we loved this episode because of a lack of Burnham.
I think not. All the blogs I’ve read said that Covid gave the writers more time. I think that may be the first noted benefit of these days.
And yes @pap the whole land on unknown world, explore world, have shit go down was great

Is it just me, or was time travel especially fattening for Tilly?

It’s just diversity.
Her waistline that is.

So the latest series of Discovery continues to not suck. In this episode, we get to find out who the new permanent captain is, which is earned and feels right. There were simpler routes to take.

The Discovery zips back to Earth using the spore drive to see what it is like 700 years later. It is not the same, providing something of a rude awakening for the crew. I won’t spoil too much, but at first I thought Earth might be a fascist endeavour, like in Babylon 5’s third season.

Didn’t turn out that way. Was actually a typical Star Trek episode in many ways, with the Federation (or what’s left of it) resolving an issue between two warring parties.

There are plot holes, for certain. I’m not quite sure why Wen thought his best means of communication was to fly about garbed like that, but I can see what this show is trying to do this year. Reboot the Federation and by extension, space travel in general.

Fam C_S agree with your post in its entirety

Blimey, that must be a first

@pap almost doing a Bazza impersonation- he is trying to find ways of avoiding saying he is enjoying where the journey has got us to so far.

OK so who/how do they upgrade their shields/weapons

That’ll be the new passenger they took on this week. Tbf the script does tend to signpost this stuff.

Wow. I never spotted that :lou_smiley:

So now they have all the known history of the known universe up to 900 years ago and a Trill

What’s the betting they still make some dumb moves!?

I will say again. The second season was a fucking dumpster fire which had one purpose; explain how Discovery can even be Prime Universe.

Also, no Trek series ever got decent until the third season.

Then it worked better.

But yeah it’s like Enterprise & DS9 were just not right Enterprise got canned just as t was snapping out of it then went for Nazi Aliens :lou_facepalm_2:

Right show. Wrong time.

People were a bit sick of the formula. Shame, because Season 3 of Enterprise took a big risk with a season long arc which paid off.

Season 4 was pretty decent too.

How did we not have time for Disco yesterday?
Not like anything else happened…

Ep2.
Hmmm.
Good story, moves the bigger Trek along, revisits some old DS9 TNG Canon.
Not up to Ep1 & 2 but I’ll allow this pause as it tidied up some things that needed doing.
