I’d have to watch B5 again but, from my recollection, B5 started OK, peaked in the mid seasons and then tailed off.

DS9 started slow and just got betterer and betterer…

I have a confession, the only other boxset I have is SG-1

All unopened and still in cellophane…

The first and last seasons of B5 were a bit ropey. The first because few of the cast had really nailed their roles. The last would have been shitloads better had they knew they were getting it. They thought Season 4 was the last, crammed a shitload into it which could have easily made up the last season.

Outside of the main shows, I’d probably have no argument. B5’s spin-offs were either okay or awful. However, I don’t think anything addresses the human condition through sci-fi quite like Babylon 5.

Just as one example. DS9 plays with a couple of religions. Babylon 5 explains all religion.

The peaks and troughs in B5 also seem huge, whether on a personal level or on a much wider scale.

I was going to say something along the lines of Star Trek, up until recently, being purely sci-fi with some social commentary thrown in. Whereas B5 is more like the Expanse in being social commentary with sci-fi thrown in.

But then I started examining things in my head and wasn’t so sure if that is the case. Interesting initial observation though

It is telling that B5 mysteriously is not easy to find to re-binge.
And wouldn’t Battlestar be up there without the knife to the gut ending(s)?

Nope. It’s because they recorded it on video and it is not easy to get a good image in this day and age from the source material. The most up to date version available is the DVD.

I downloaded 5 seasons last night, I have offered you a way to access what I have…

All I need is a day or two off to take you up on that.
3 nights away with no WiFi isn’t helping this week either!

I’m still ploughing on dutifully with Picard. This is not saying much, but episode four is the best of the series so far.

It is still spending a lot of time retroactively trying to explain its choices - the opening scene is another one set in the past - but it fed directly into the episode and was not unwelcome.

Out of all these episodes, this feels the most like Trek. New planet. Away mission. Bish bash bosh.

However, it still feels like so many other things, needlessly so. Did they really have to have a captain of a small ship that resembles the Expanse’s James Holden so much?

You owe me a new ship…

Ah how that stirred the loins

So we really have a non-Federation Star Trek.
Thanks to the mesmerising presence of Patrick Stewart it grips. Maybe as his legacy as much as storyline.
It still shows promise, allows an expansion of the ST Universe.
Oh, and @pap - fyi all educated non IT Millenials look like James Holden these days
Has ST ever had a beheading before?

This should please the haters

Nope. Until I see some credible writers and show runners, I’ve little hope of Trek being good.

Anyone got the transporter coordinates for Freecloud?

Have to say 7 of 9 still works for me.
She’s almost learned to act as well.

No spoilers but enjoying seeing the Trek Universe from the outside. A lot of other storylines to work with (not being a Trek novel reader)
