Sparta Prague v Saints Build Up and Match Thread

After so many so-called fans booed the team I wouldn’t blame any of the team for going. Thought we were better than Pompey fans, apparently not.

It was fucking shameful. Shane Long was well pissed off and made it quite clear.

No, but there is a “sex machines museum”.

Strangely, no picture of me in the window.

Wishful thinking i’m afraid. The fact of the matter is that when it comes to transfers agents rule the roost. VVD’s agent would have made sure that a certain amount, ie, 20 or 25 million would be the trigger, then Southampton have to allow the player to speak with the interested club. I think we have to get used to the idea that VVD will be gone in January. Puel virtually admitted this a couple of days ago when he said that we should enjoy him while he is here. It is out of our hand’s, Pogba’s agent got 20 million when he went to Man United. 20 million!! From the story’s coming out of Liverpool it is blindingly obvious that VVD has already been tapped up, likewise Sam McQueen, hence his reluctance to sign a new contract. Agents are a cancer in our game. But as it stands there is nothing we can do, It is silly and childish to blame Les Reed and label the Saints as a selling club. There is nothing we can do about it, the fact of the matter is that even if a player has 5 years left on a contract, and he has been offered three times his salary to go elsewhere, what can we do? Demand that he honour his contract? Stay with the club against his will? In the real world, of course not.We found that out with Lovren, he went on strike. Once a player has his head turned like this, the only realistic option is to let them go. My dream is that one day a club will have the bottle to say, " you cannot approach our under contract player, we will put him on gardening leave for 3 years, pay his salary as per his contract, hold him to it".

Just imagine if the tables were turned and a player were told, " We know you have a four year contract but we really don’t fancy you any more, so we will just walk away from the contract". Which is basically what the likes of VVD will be doing.

We’re not fucking super heroes, if its deemed as entertainment and thats what they sell it as then we have every right to boo shit and poor performances, if its sport then they shouldn’t sell our best players, bollocks to “supporters” they weren’t there in the early 90’s when we were truly shit, we had a hard core of booers and pissheads then and our “supporters” were better then funnily enough, more noise and more fun.

DellBoy is utterly bolluxed. I have officially broken him :lou_lol:

It’s football, not Panto!

I’m too fuckin’ old to boo my team…it’s not going to happen.

Booing is for early leavers and fair-weather supporters. They can just fuck off along with the singers of the only Saint’s song I heard last night which involved our hatred of those non-entities a few miles to the east. They were much more of an embarrassment than our team last night.

Long Island iced teas time. My uncle wants to go clubbing. Again. He is 64.

If they are shit they are shit, no excuses, they’re men and can handle a bit of booing for fucks sake.

As for VvD and a buyout clause, he may have a low buyout clause to trigger discussions, but I’d imagine we’d have 2 or 3 clubs in competition for his signature.

£20m could become a lot more in that case.

People are entitled to boo if they feel they have been short changed. I dont think you can say the players didn’t put in a shift last night, it was just that as a team they seemed to be bereft of ideas. I think for most these days it is win or boo. The more civilised / experienced supporters have seen a lot worse. In fact, I think that many of those, myself included, honestly just don’t see how things can get much better for a club our size.

Virgil is a great player, possibly one of the top twenty centre backs playing today, maybe. By rights he should be playing for one of the top ten clubs in the world. Bad news is, we wouldnt be in that list. Good news, currently, neither would Liverpool. I think it will be a summer move though - go to a team with guaranteed UCL Football.

There is absolutely no way Saints would sell VVD to Liverpool for less than they paid for Mane.I think they will not sell this window but wait until the summer when the fee will be much higher. Also there must be a sell on clause with Celtic to consider.

When VVD goes (not if) it will be an absolute disgrace if it is not for a club record fee. It needs to surpass the £36m for Mané.

I agree with the “Please, not Liverpool. Anyone but fucking Liverpool!” sentiment. Not just because my Liverpool ‘fan’ mates from Buckinghamshire have never been to Anfield, but because it’s just fucking tediously boring. Fucking Groundhog Day every time you read the gossip columns. It also gives retarded sports ‘journalists’ (who I detest) an easy day at the office. Need to fill some column inches? - just link a Saints player with Liverpool because chances are it’s probably true. As they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. They’re not forced to work hard enough and that pisses me off!

On a side note…did Fonte ever actually sign his new deal/payrise? I presume not or if he did, the club didn’t announce it. So 2 new centre halves in the summer then!

Maybe a Chinese takeover wouldn’t be the worst thing!

On the booing debate… I’ve never booed my team. I booed a ref once and immediately felt like a cunt.

And all each of those three clubs have to do is pay saints £20m no more, no less. The only bidding war will be witth VVD for his wages.

If a club bids £20m (if that is the buyout) we have to except it no matter what! So why would another club bid £25m? Doesn’t give them any more gravitas in talking to VVD.

Anyway I thought english football didn’t have buyout clauses…

Let’s face it. Liverpool are moving in the right direction - they’ll probably be winning the league at some point in the next 5 years. If I was Virgil I’d be up for that.

I reckon 20m is bullshit for a buyout though.
