It’s weird, VVD looks to me like he’s got his head screwed on right, he seems pretty level-headed, so I would be surprised if he went to Liverpool. Wait a bit longer and he’d get snapped up by a proper big club like Barca or Real, even Man City with Pep in charge is a better option surely. But maybe he’s thinking PayDay 1, move to Liverpool, PayDay 2, move to Barca/Real.

The time players stay with us is getting shorter and shorter especially centre backs. What is the timespan for a good centre back with Saints - Aldeveld Lovren now VVD.
I really hope with the long contract we start laying the law down. Got to be 3 or 4 years minimum with Van dykes contract. Also I dont see how anyone can say Stones is a better player and he was £50 million wasnt he. Are we bargin basement compared to Everton?
you’re in cloud cuckoo land if you think VVD is staying for 3-4 years. He would have signed that deal with a verbal agreement that he could go after 1-2 years.

I THINK I remember him saying something to this effect when being interviewed about his new deal.
Not that he had a verbal agreement, but rather that he could see himself here for 2 years.
I did read somewhere that all of the players that signed new deals agreed to stay for at least 2 years.
Makes sense to me as it means that if they do go it will be for top dollar and gives the club time to line up replacements. Most clubs don’t do big deals in the January window and Saints do not do that with the likes of Mane and Victor not being allowed to leave last January.

I’m surprised ol’ Pep isn’t creaming himself over VVD. They’re allegedly in the market for a new CB because Kompany is a proper sicknote, and VVD is like John Stones should be but isn’t. I’m not trying to sell VVD or anything, but if he IS going to go one day, don’t to to Liverpool… please!
