On any other day we would have scored 3 or 4 goals…unfortunately on any other day we would have conceded 3 or 4.

Livid. Why the fuck did we continue to play such a high line?

Ref was shite as well:

1st half - 4 mins added on. 1 goal up until that point

2nd half - 4 mins added on. 5 goals, 5 subs, a penalty decision where the ref went to the monitor to view. Please explain that somebody.

The high line against Son reminded me of Nicholl and Watson trying the same against Cyrill Regis. At list the had Holmes and Williams to shield them.

Without a destroyer in front of the CB.s pace at CB and a decent sweeper keeper this is suicide. We have none of the above.

Djenepo Ings and Adams played well, Stu was good while he lasted and the full backs were ok, The rest were crap …

A high line will work if you actually bother to mark the 1 or 2 forwards you are faced with.

Stephens strolled round the pitch, was slow in passing it (usually backwards) and you would have thought that after Son had scored twice, it might have occurred to him to get within fouling distance.

Yay, we’re next to bottom of the table. My only wish was to have a season where we didn’t flirt with the relegation zone and my weekends were, on balance, enjoyable. 2 games in and it ain’t looking too good … :disappointed::disappointed:

Our best performances after restart were defending deep and attacking on the break. When we pressed, we still defended against the through ball or ball over the top. Now Ralph suddenly seems hell bent on a suicidally high line that anyone can play through or over, given our lack of pace. I just don’t understand why we changed.

Dont worry peeps, it’s ā€œlong ball over the topā€ Burnley next on a cold rainy Saturday night at 8pm. What could possibly go wrong ?

If nothing else Saints can always be relied on to piss on your parade. I had so much optimism after the way we finished last season, couldn’t wait for this one to start. But same old Saints. What on earth is Ralph doing with this high line system, why not just carry on where we left off, it’s the same team, same players? Makes no sense to me. Much more of this and I shall transfer my affections back to the Gills!

Well we’re shit for a start and run away from a scrap so…

Funny no clappery this evening, lads we’re shit, we punch above our weight but we’re a provincial City, no amount of bollocks from the club over the last 10 years can change that, the only thing that disappoints as a wank club is we don’t take the cups seriously.

Probably because we’re bored of giving you a chance to spout your usual nonsense.

Personally thought we were good in the first half but pressed too high so got caught out time and time again.

Didn’t learn and definitely something needs to change - defence-wise - otherwise I don’t think we’re a bad team, but I guess you are going to differ, you always seem to.

Pants well and truly pissed.

Comparison of heat maps gives a good analysis of how it went wrong for us today; Son on the left, Stephens and Bednarek on the right.

I am very worried. Reminds me a bit of the start to last season and the hiding we took at the hands of Leicester. 5 goals in 37 minutes, again at home. It was going quite well before that.

But the comments coming out of from management are worrying, as they are blaming things that really are their job to make sure do not happen.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl: - After Brentford. Even sounds like a lot has slipped in a few weeks?!

"We have to be very, very clear that at the moment, with the team we have, it will be very difficult to win games.

"We were not quick enough at any part, not physically and not mentally.

"This is definitely something that we should work on. We played too slow and we did not do enough with the ball.

"Some of our players are not as strong as we have seen them in the past. We have a few big problems but we know that it is a tough season and a long season and we have to get back to working well.

ā€œThere is definitely a lot of work to do.ā€

I am very concerned.

Need to rethink the high line of defence. That has been the cause of most of the goals we’ve conceeded.

Are you blind, our defence is shit.
