Bloody hell. That’s a turn up for the books. Was expecting to get well shafted.
We mnanaged the game well, stupid penalty to give away, apart from that we contained Chelsea…
A
Astonishing stuff
What did i miss?
Ings pen …
Yep Ingsy missed it…the ball that is.
Well won point which not many, including me, was expecting. Moussa my MotM. Would not want to watch that every week but given the current situation very happy with the performance.
Mason Mount telling the BBC he grew up supporting Portsmouth so scoring against Southampton means so much more to him. Fucking Skate cunt.
Huge props to Ralph for the tactics.
And tbh also to Keown in the fail link I posted before KO.
Keown said Tuchel likes to flood midfield & squeeze you out the game, and with KWP injured switching to a back 3 could negate him.
Ralph went one better with a rolling back 3/4, eased up on our heavy press but still used Redz & Ings to block angles and so we didnt run out of steam.
Salisu so encouraging but Moussa MotM all day long. He really does give his all. Love that.
The penalty was the sort where against us it was given with barely a check but for us I’m sure they’d have looked in minute detail and seen that Ings did just get a bit of the ball.
I’d say it probably was a pen, but nowhere near as clear cut as some have suggested. We’ve had better shouts refused. The refereeing today, apart from the penalty, didn’t have a critical effect on the result, but how Chelsea survived all those hacks on Djenepo without even a yellow, I don’t know. There were two tackles worse than Bertrand’s when he was sent off against Leicester and Djenepo when he saw red too. And quite a few where we didn’t even get a free kick.
Well I’m glad to hear Keown writes a better column than he does a commentary shift.
Good point today. I was convinced we’d crumble but fair play to them for staying strong after the set back. In truth we weren’t really tested.
I can see why the club think Salisu will be a superstar. Physically he’s good but also there are signs that his positioning and reading of the game is impressive. There was a time when he stepped out and intercepted a cut back whereas Stephens probably would have retreated to the goal line.
Onwards and upwards please Saints!
That’s the mid season blip out of the way. We’ll be playing in Europe next season!
I have to say there were still occasions when Salisu gave me kittens today.
At times he looked unflustered beyond his experience which unnerved. I also thought his short passing lacked a certain precision putting the onus on the receiver to tidy up. However his positional sense looked good although he was caught on the ball to set up the penalty.
It’s a good start, with experience he’ll only get better and I’ll feel more relaxed when watching him.

Mason Mount
Skate bell end
That as well.
Had been in two minds about Djenepo until today - I could see he had talent, but was a bit showboaty - Thought he put in a proper shift & took a lot of knocks and was, for me, the standout Saints player today.
He was clearly being targeted for fouls as well, which says a lot.
I thought the referee was letting them get away with a lot of grappling, at times their pressing resembled a wrestling match.
Very one sided reffing, yet again. Those two hacks on Djenepo would have been cards for us, intentional or not.
The one where the studs caught Djenepo above the ankle was a red for me all day long.
