Been digging a bit deeper. Could this be the shop I was thinking of? The one I am thinking of used to have quarter jars and sale lemon sherbet. Not sure it was called Daniels though? It was the shop on the right of the parade.

A big fave of mine and SO5’s (as you know, of course!). For some reason it’s stuck in my mind that, when I first used to drink in there, bitter was 21p a pint and HSB 23p. That was in the public bar at the front of course - the lounge at the back was a little more expensive!
I remember the legendary juke box was upstairs. In the pool room?

Used to be our hanging out place (mainly because most of our crowd were underage
), but also because of the juke box. Standards were full length version of FreeBird and The Tubes White Punks on Dope.
It was a challenge to play pool as you could barely see from one end of the table to the other through the strange smelling cigarette haze
How many more times have our paths unknowingly crossed over the years I wonder!!

Fred and Dennis were running the place … they used to hate match days as we’d be there, armed with our freshly purchased Football Echo, banging on the door at 1 minute past 6 to open up!! We’d occassionally go in the Lounge Bar to make it easier for the girls to choose which of the impressive range of Gales Wines displayed on the shelf, they’d be drinking next!!

Me too … in one of the trees just in front of The Painted Wagon. They weren’t very big back then and had to be careful the branches didn’t snap with our weight. We had initially tried climbing up onto the roof of the line of shops across the road, but got stopped by Old Bill!! On my visits back home I always make a point of visiting (but not climbing) that tree. It’s huge now!!

Would love to see any of our players doing this in Southampton in 2016, but to see Fonte lifting the trophy would be just amazing. (League or FA).
