Now I know this is not an old photo. But was the Aldi a motorcycle shop and what used to be opposite where the flats are?
Valley Motorcycles is still there. Just about by that first lamppost on the right.
A familiar view to me on my visits back home. St Deny’s station to The Guide Dog!!
My Dad used to work at Minicabs in the late 60’s early 70’s, which I think was based just around the corner to the right. They had a fleet of Green and Yellow(?) Austin 1100’s.

These were luxury flats and state of the art when they were first built… In the 60’s!
Can’t quite work out where this is. Is it Commercial Road?
Yep Commercial Road…making way for the award winning Wyndham Court. It enjoys the protection of Gd 2 listed building status. I’m sure we’re all delighted about that.
One of my mates lived on the top level, afforded a great view of post match punch ups in the mid/late 70’s near the station, supping a hot cup of tea, whilst waiting for the pubs to open at 6PM

Welcome eric!
Yeah, sorry eric. I’d like to give you more of a welcome, but we’ve got a pair of uppity butlers (the self appointed one is far worse) that:-
a) are not performing their duties in time
b) moan if someone else does it for them
Butler’s quarters are off limits to me, so I don’t know what goes on in there. My working theory is that the pair of them shirk responsibility onto each other in a slapstick “to me, to you” Chuckle Brothers style.
Thanks Pap, but I haven’t got the foggiest idea what you are going on about!! Still trying to find my way around the place!!
This is now the amazing Marlands house! FFS!

That’s understandable. Glad to have you here. The About Us page has got links to some key threads, including this one.
Cheers Pap. I am lucky to have been in a position to contribute over the last 5 months. As sad as it maybe I love posting these old photos, as I still come across things that I did not know about. I take after my dad for this sort of thing for sure and also got loads of his Southampton history books when he died.
Some see it is a bit of a sad hobby, but it gives me and others some joy, then it cannot be any harm!
pap can help you be 15x more productive with your wanderings.
Adding my welcome Eric. Its very different to SWF for sure, 99% of posts are friendly FFS! Enjoy

That’s a bit of an ask. GPS was easier.
I’ve thought further on this. I reckon there’s no joint about it.
Rationale? This thread is actually about Southampton
But this dosen’t include Rallyboy’s “meisterwerke”.
These buildings were on the corner of Burgess Road and university road. I am sure these were still open in the early 90’s but the car looks like it is from the 70’s! Perhaps I am just getting old!
Not sure what shops these were, but I am sure one was a sweet shop? NatWest in the corner? All a modern parade now I believe?
Here are the same parade of shops, but I can see that NatWest is on the corner, but right on the corner. One of these shops was a conviance store in the late 80’s for sure.
Another of the Cowherds.
