I take the bus routes from Woolston took a little bit longer until the Itchen bridge was opened… That is a long way round!

Your pictures of the Floating Bridge inspired me to dig through my negs of the pictures I took on the Floating Bridge’s last day in operation on Saturday 11th June 1977…

I do like the contrast in the 2.

These were luxury flats and state of the art when they were first built… In the 60’s!

The Polygon. I was really surprised that they tore this place down! But at least I am never surprised by some of the things they do anymore.

Can’t quite work out where this is. Is it Commercial Road?

Yep Commercial Road…making way for the award winning Wyndham Court. It enjoys the protection of Gd 2 listed building status. I’m sure we’re all delighted about that. :lou_facepalm_2:

Anyone know what is on the spot now, or is it still standing? I would be surprised.

Now I know this is not an old photo. But was the Aldi a motorcycle shop and what used to be opposite where the flats are?

It was Western Hospital in Tebourba Way, which has been a Tesco since about 1990. They did open a brand new medical centre behind it.

Valley Motorcycles is still there. Just about by that first lamppost on the right.

Don’t know that area of the city that well at all. Tesco seem to have replaced a lot of things.
