Yes, it’s the corner of Leigh Road and Market Street. Took me a minute to recognise it (and no, it’s never looked quite like that in my lifetime).

It is indeed Eastleigh Town Hall. The building’s still there, but it’s cerainly not the town hall any more. I don’t know what it’s used for now, but my parents will probably know so I’ll ask them.

This is why I post them, in the hope that someone worked there, or knows someone who works there.

I used to work in Edwin Jones - on Saturdays / school holidays. I worked on the cigarette counter!

It was debenhams by the time I took my first ever real job there while I was waiting for my apprenticeship to start. (Very early 70’s)

For 7 quid a week, I worked in an old house across the street where they stored washing machines. 8am to 9 am, get the washers out for deliver. 9am to 10am, throw things at anyone who came into the “Warehouse” to make sure I had done my work.

10am till the end of the day, go upstairs and sniff glue or go into town be a part of the problem rather than the solution.

St Mary’s Road fire station - 1947

Now based in Eastleigh.

The entrance to the Royal Military Hospital in Netley from the beginning of the 20th century.

The gatehouse is still in place, now a private residence. The hospital is a public park, Royal Victoria Country Park.

Woolston fire station 28th October 1929 - 17 January 1996. The Itchen Bridge was the downfall of the fire station on the other side of the water, as it was now easy to get across, so it was decided that Woolston was no longer needed.

Soon after it closed as a fire station, it opened as a doctors surgery. At least they kept the building, rather than knocking it down.

Woolston from the crossroads between Portsmo#th and Victoria Roads, looking down towards the slipway. The foreground there is a child playing with a hoop.
