🎂 Sotonians milestones

I see…maybe he needs a few biology lessons  (or he’s been drinking  )

I had, but I’ve never met you.

A milestone for me at least. A full (ish) day in the office today. Fairly full train to London and who knows what later with the masses. Oh joy

Good luck. Having negotiated the train and tube system I know exactly how you feel. Cooped up with horde of potential plague rats!

At the tender age of 42 I have finally bought my own house (along with the missus). No more renting, no more battles for a parking space, no more walking to work in the rain because I now live far enough away for a work parking permit :lou_sunglasses:

YoungAdult #1 finished her MSc at St Mary’s in the City a short while ago and has just landed a lab monkey job at the same place where she’ll be doing something or other Covid related - it’s for a year and fits in nicely with her sorting out a Phd.

She’s particularly happy because she now doesn’t have to go any more lessons on “how to apply for a job” / prove she’s applied for loads of jobs to get Universal Credit. (Think League of Gentlemen and dumb it down)

Well done.

You’ll probably get your first really decent Christmas present from her this year.

Sotonians. Come for the unrequited promise of football. Stay to have your Christmas seeded with potential disappointment!

You’d like to hope….

So had a company meeting today. My name was mentioned three times in glowing terms; apparently my work has given us a lot of credibility with our existing clients.

It’s a bonus. Frankly, I’m amazed I haven’t been bollocked in two years.

They’re talking about you, right?

Good work though :+1:

So I found out today that someone, inspired by my exploits, left his degree educated life as a pharmacist to become a software developer.

I said I was humbled, unless his inspiration was watching me and thinking “shit, those developers get away with a lot”.

He said it would leave it open to interpretation!

So many people trying to join my birthday party/tour, had to call in some security!

YoungAdult#1 just got confirmation of getting a distinction in her MSc - It’s cancer research related and by all accounts her dissertation project found something new (& her supervisor has asked to use the findings).

Her comment was that it’s easy when you’re doing something you enjoy.

We think she’s found a vocation and is updating her research Phd applications with the confirmed grade.

I’m now 3rd in the family intelligence table, with YoungAdult#2 due to graduate next summer - I expect to be bottom of the table but as a Saints supporter I’m used to it :slightly_frowning_face:

Excellent.

Also, get used to plummeting down the Relative Competence chart.

I have.

Already done. I’m consciously incompetent in most things :+1:

I’ve got a Cycling Proficiency Test Certificate and Yellow Swimming Braid ( 1 width).
Do they count?

They were awarded in 1878. No.

All the more impressive when one considers that you took it on the very latest model at the time, the Penny Farthing.

Stunning weather for a trip to the mountains.
Stopped to show clients the ski jump (no snow it has plastic grass stuff.)
And
omg! Seen my first flying people!
Obviously training but even from a distance suddenly you realise how far they fly & how batshit mental they must be.

One has been hugely inspired to never do it.
