Thatâs a hell of an age. My first dog was a Lhasa Apso, very similar type of mutt, he did well getting to 14.
Yeah, and apart from being a bit slower, she was doing well a year ago. Iâve got some videos of her jumping up onto couches, etc, fully sighted. I think she was deaf then.
Over the year, she lost her sight and barked incessantly. She only knew us by smell and while Iâd marvel at what she could still do despite all sheâd lost, I sort of knew the end was near when she fell down the stairs a few weeks ago.
I watched her retry it, saw her legs go, caught her and carried her up myself.
It is a very weird evening. I am alright, then suddenly realise I am not going to see her again. Iâm also feeling pretty guilty, because I used to get frustrated with her incessant barking and the poor cow was probably just in a lot of pain.
Well, it depends on how people treat their pets.
We got Sophie instead of having more kids, so she was very much our baby and remained so in a way that the cats will never be (those independent fucks).
The kids are most affected because sheâs their childhood pet. Young Adult #1 wrote a lovely post about running about with her as a young kid, using her as a hot water bottle to ease her period pains during puberty.
She was basically around for as long as they can remember.
Happier milestone to report at the end of the week.
Lastborn has secured a grad job at a very decent firm - and she doesnât graduate for another year. Very humble compared to myself and her older sister, lastborn doesnât do things for the sake of doing them.
She didnât know what she wanted to do when finishing her A-levels, so she took a year off to work it out. She ended up going for accountancy and finance, taking a course with a year in industry based on my advice. My own placement year was the professional making of me. Itâs the ultimate way around the chicken and egg âneed experienceâ thing.
Anyway, she has finished her placement year and been offered a grad job with the same people. She could have worked part-time during her final year for them, but has elected to return to stock-take at TESCO for her final year of studies.
As I said, sheâs the humble one. A big fair play to her.
Happy Birthday young man
Kid Goat aces A levels. 3 A stars.
Fucking get in, Goat Jr.
Please send the fam a big well done from me.
Fab stuff. The lucky girl clearly gets her brains from her mother as well as her looks.
Youâre not wrong. So far today I have kicked over some paint and taken some skin off my forearm with an orbital sander.
Whatâs the matter, youâve got plenty left
hmm Iâm looking for a painter, I wonder if goatboyâŚ
He did a brilliant job on the outside of our house.
Wouldnât let him inside though?
Great result Matt. Harvey didnât quite match that ⌠2 A*, 2 A. Manchester next ! Super proud of him.
There. Corrected it for you.
Anti-Semite!
Not a family or personal milestone, but this morning is the first ship Iâve been on since Covid where no masks are in use. Passengers have been given the option for some months now, but up til today all the cruise ship staff and crew have been wearing them. Not a mask in sight today on the Balmoral (Fred Olsen.)
So, tomorrow brings big changes to the Fam C_S household
YoungAdult#2 is off to Sussex Uni to do MSc in Particle Physics
YoungAdult#1 still studying for Phd but fed up with the time and cost of travel up to/from town to Uni. Off to get the key and drop off some of her stuff in shared house up in Battersea. Finally moving out. Will be fully out by the end of next week.
Weâre under orders not to change their rooms / bring in lodgersâŚ.
Iâll now also have to talk to Mrs C_S.
