"But I believe that is more to do with the rather extremist sects that hold all the power (most of these places aren’t exactly paragons of Democracy), than a systemic problem with all of Islam - particularly Muslims born and raised in Western countries. "
Yeah. Sorry buddy but this is where you’re just denying reality. Have a look at a few pew polls of Muslim attitudes in the UK towards issues like homosexuality, women’s rights and apostasy.
The religion, like all religions, is a load of age-old mysoginistic, conservative, patriarchal codswallop. The problem is literally that leftists in the UK are reluctant to properly criticise it because most of its practitioners are brown. Sorry but that’s the truth.
_ "it doesn’t escape my attention that many people who love to bash Islamic countries don’t exactly go after Russia with the same gusto. Which, is a nation with an Authoritarian regime with equally barbaric treatment of LGBT folk. " _
Er. No. Lol.
Homosexuality in Russia is completely legal. In Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Iraq, Mauritania, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, homosexual activity carries the death penalty. In other Muslim countries, such as Algeria, Maldives, Malaysia, Qatar, Somalia and Syria, it is illegal.
There’s an absolutely huge gulf there. And I’d like you to refrain from making that erroneous comparison from now on.
TO THE PATRONS OF SOTONIANS
Our dear friend KRG (doubtless a good man I’m quite sure), claimed that Russia is an authoritarian regime with _**“EQUALLY BARBARIC TREATMENT OF LGBT FOLK”
This claim is completely false, mistaken and not true.
Being gay in Russia isn’t even illegal, yet in many Muslim countries carries the death penalty.**_
Yet not a single one of you took two minutes to fact-check this utterly false and incorrect claim.
Does this not give you pause for thought about your own worldview or your own susceptibility to propaganda?
KRG - I’m sure this was a mistake on your part and I trust that you’re open-minded enough to re-think your position on the subject.
