šŸ”ˆ Site announcement: Things that we think you should know

Two weeks is a long time, but it is not the first time he has been silenced, and I did warn him back then that the next time we felt we had to do this, it would be longer.

The mods agreed this course of action collectively before taking it. It has been a long time coming, he’s had warning after warning about his hostility.

He’s lost the dressing room. I hope he gets it back, but I suspect that if all he does is return to a life of plastering his barely-veiled prejudices about certain nations all over the site, he won’t.

I am not heartless though.

Secret poll.

Should Bazza serve his full sentence?

  • Yes. Sotonians chokey complete with grim encounters in the showers
  • No, let him off. His family have had enough. In shock, they’ve all forgotten English overnight and now speak Mandarin, Russian and Farsi.

Barry has always been Barry and I think it is highly unlikely that he will ever change. I left the site for a while partly because I got fed up with the way he constantly destroyed threads just by being Barry. Whichever way I vote he will still return so I think I will swerve this one, I just wish he would learn to curb his excessive Barryisms.

If he gets perma-banned, can I have his Roger Mellie avatar? You know, the one that was rightfully mine all along? :rage:

A while back I changed my avatar to Roger Mellie and started posting on one of the footy threads a la baz, got goatboy hook line and sinker :lou_lol:

I think that there is concern that Barry tends to drive people away, or keep them off threads which have become toxic. If he wants to behave like that, fair enough - but there are other places he can infect. Can even move to Mar a largo with his kindred spirit who infected social media for so long.

It’s not just Barry that does that. It’s any thread which results in a death spiral and I’ve had my part in those myself.

I think the key word is infest. People do not want to read about his exaggerated fears that border on racism. Someone inevitably replies and the death spiral begins.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s traffic. It makes some of the site stats look better, such as number of posts. I do suspect that the number of Daily Engaged Users may be suffering. Two weeks should be long enough to bear that out.

I’m fairly new to this site and I find Barry to be a general PITA

There’s a block function that works very well. I got told about it, selected the (albeit few) posters that got right up my beak and blocked them. Happy days. By the way, Barry who ? :joy::joy:

I couldn’t stand the fucker when he first emerged on SaintsWeb, but here’s the thing. Most people who’ve ever met him in person have gotten on with him, so he gets something of a pass thereafter.

Barry is just your typical lad down the pub. He’s also a giant piss-taker. Know those two things and he’s a lot easier to ignore without using any forum features.

That’s become increasingly difficult.

I think the real danger is trying to engage in a discussion with someone who REALLY believes they have all the answers on EVERY topic. I don’t engage, but I do read most on this site but even as a spectator I find his infestation very annoying.

It could be worse, I could try to discuss a topic with him.

I used to use that one on fiverweb, I’m pretty sure Barry adopted it here after that. I suppose it’s to be expected, he lives in Liverpool so he’ll probably nick anything.

I’m a fence sitter when it comes to perma bans, but sometimes it’s for the best. Some of the more contentious characters have been kicked out of the UI and it is all the better without the childish squabbling and pathetic wummery. Many of us have found ourselves in spats and difficult threads I’m sure, but when the same characters consistently cause problems something has to be done otherwise it just spoils things for everyone. I don’t want to see Barry banned forever, but he really needs to learn how to rein it in. A case in point is the last Wolves thread. At first I couldn’t believe how reasonably well controlled it was. Then I realised that Barry wasn’t on it and that would be why there was no mental melt down. There is free speech and then there are people like Trump and Barry who probably should never be let anywhere near social media.

As you know, I am not your typical leftie in that I am a bit more prepared to judge things on outcomes rather than dogma.

As such, I looked at Trump’s time and gave my assessment. Shit if you were a Democrat or a Palestinian. Probably a lot better for the rest of the world.

I tried to support Bazza on some of his less wild points on that thread and he was arguing with me when I’m agreeing with him!

I think he’s just on auto-barney with everyone who dares reply to him.

This is the bit I really struggle with at times.

Honestly IRL he is personable and quiet a nice chap, this is where I find it difficult to reconcile between his human and online presonas…

I spent almost all my working life of 40 years within an ā€œOffice Cultureā€

I can honestly say I never met anyone as blatantly combative as Bazza, he just wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes but that suggests you’re quite correct, he isn’t like that in real life.

The thing that gets me is that it has always been universal. He doesn’t even have a select few he’s less of a shit to. You’ve got to respect it on some level even if it annoys you on every other!

Well it comes as a surprise as when I look back over my working life there are two people I didn’t get on with at some level. Now Bazza pops up on an online forum and appears to be disagreeable at every turn, like it’s a raison d’etre.

I’ve never had a problem with him, tbh.
