I’ll take that
Yeah TBH I was joking but since when did Spuds identify with being a Jewish club. I know they have some but then so do Saints and every other club in the country. Are Spud supporters comfortable to be identified with any particular religion…I know I wouldn’t be.
Nice to see positive MOTD for a change
I will discuss Mr friend tomorrow when I’ve checked the spelling of certain adjectives I’ve never typed before.
MOTD to watch first.
Lets face it Lawro was 100% wrong with his prediction again
Eh? They have been for as long as I can remember.
(so, since yesterday then… )
He was no friend of ours
Never seen a ref get pelters 10 mins in and be still getting it at the end - a truely bullshit performance.
As I said it was more of a wind-up. I understand the history of the association but I’m wondering just how many who attend Spud’s home games are Jewish or even subscribe to a religion of any kind. The only other teams I can think of are Celtic and Rangers and they are by far more sectarian.
Just watched Match of the Day. I wasn’t at the match, sadly. Looked a great game to be at.
I did enjoy the shots of Poch in the stands looking glum. He looked like Paulie in Goodfellas after Henry grasses him up.
Does Barry have any further updates to his JWP is gash dissertation, I wonder?
Well, that was fucking awesome. I suppose you could say it was the classic game of two halves. As much as anything, it shows what can be achieved when we play against another team, rather than against said team’s reputation. In the first half we played against the reputation (plus the referee), whereas in the second half we had just the other team (plus the referee) to contend with.
Poor first-half display, far too respectful. We allowed Tottenham to play as they like to do, while offering precious little ourselves. MotD is about to start as I type this - I’ll be interested to see if their goal was as massively offside as it looked from my position, pretty much in line with play. But even without the ref on their side, Spurs were the better side by some distance in the first half. They hit the woodwork twice (desperate Yoshi interception and Eriksen’s free kick) and came close more times than I’d care to remember.
After that, the second half was a revelation. Excellent substitutions, but the way we then played was down to far more than just those changes. We were right at them from the off, giving them no time or space to play; we created chances from the off as well. So, it was no surprise when we scored - if anything, it was a surprise that it took as long as it did. Not sure just what happened with the miss when Sims was lying injured, but that certainly should have been 1-1. When we got the free kick and JWP stepped up to take it, my only thought was that we would be 2-1 up. And so it was, and so it stayed.
A number of excellent performances today, but for me our best player was Ward-Prowse. Not just for his goal, excellent though that was, but his overall play. He was superb. And additional plaudits to Ralph, for making the substitutions when he did and for lifting the team and giving them the belief to do the job in the second half.
I’m not normally one for griping about referees (the big teams tend to get the marginal decisions, and it’s been like that for as long as I can remember), but Friend’s performance today was just beyond incompetent. I can’t add anything to Rallyboy’s excellent comments above, so I’ll leave it at that.
Bazza only has 8 more matches to moan at JWP then he can moan about how Gao is milking us when he sells for 40 million to a top 6 side in the summer.
Next match I get to it’ll be on - assuming Goat has stretched it for me.
Do we reckon that Barry’s favourite ‘championship level’ jwp will get an England call up?
Obviously
May see Redz and even one of Macca/Gunn
When you look back at his goals you see just how vital they were in securing us priceless points (Utd aside).
I admit I was rather apathetic towards him in the summer but fair play to him and Ralph for forging him in to a proper player, finally with some positional identity.
If he keeps it (and us) up then he will be hard to beat for Saints player of the year. Deserving of a call up as England are not blessed with too many exciting options in central midfield.
I was very much in this camp too, he is like a new player under Ralph.
Top review Fowlly-D !!
I can also report our continued successful abstinence from SMS which is solely responsible for the upturn in our fortunes. We were in Felixstowe on Saturday and I was intentionally avoiding looking at my phone. @SimplySaint pipes up “Spurs are 1 up Dad”, at which point I prophesise that the final score will be “something like 3 nil”. I later look at my own phone and can report “have you seen that Valery has scored”, only for a spat to ensue which is “plenty of time for us to throw it away”, “Dad, you’re so negative, why do you bother looking at the score if you can’t get excited” and “you never know, they might win” (the last from Yoda-Mrs-SCD).
We’re then in Argos and I can’t resist it … 2-1, I can’t believe my eyes. Then I’m like a man possessed, walking down Felixstowe seafront with Dave and Adam streaming to my ears. Never have I been so glad about the lag between text and streamed radio on that last free kick … we’re going to throw it away, aren’t we ? No, says the live text FULL TIME.
We won’t be there for the next one (intentionally) but it has been decided that once we’re deemed safe from relegation, the drinks are on me.
One last thing … 8 games to go, 24 points on offer … wonder where 54 points will get us in the table ? You heard it here.
