:pl: :saints: Saints v Everton :evertonfc:

He’d only be about 95 now, let’s sign him up

Was thinking along similar lines after the game. Most of our woes stemmed from midfield and our absolute lack of control of it, compounded by a slow and often static back three, plus stand-in wing-backs (one in the first half, two in the second).

This was mitigated to some extent in the second half by having the wherewithal to actually pose some kind of a threat to Everton, which we’d signally failed to do all first half. If you do nothing to trouble the opposition, you can bet your life they’ll find it all too easy to trouble you. So it goes. Boufal and Djenepo combining down the left provided an attacking threat, the Everton defence panicked when faced with Djenepo in particular, and this spread across to the right side where Armstrong got more involved. But it wasn’t enough as we didn’t score a second and our defence was compromised by having two attacking players at wing-back.

I like your line-up - I’d be tempted to play Yoshida in place of Bednarek, but I’ll give the latter the benefit of the doubt given his obvious qualities and the fact that he’s been forced to cover for others so much these past few games. Hojbjerg will have a lot of work to do in that formation, but at least he won’t have two other players getting in his way.

The starting team being played has just turned up on my face book feed
so I left a comment.
" Could you change the team as this one is useless"
Surprisingly they haven’t replied.

I’m going to go out on a limb, and put forward the theory that playing Djenepo and Armstrong as far away from their natural positions didn’t help today. I am a bit drunk so maybe I’m wrong, but as I’m drunk I’m obviously more right than I’ve ever been in my life.

In vino veritas, old chap.

Hmmm, as much as I hate being given homework to do, looking that up has given me an idea for a club motto in these dark times… ‘Acta non verba’.

The only players we had on that pitch that showed any pride or ability were holding bugles.

Brutal. And accurate.
