No I said he’s toast in my eyes, there would be nothing he could do to have faith in him, losing at home to a premiership side is one thing in the cold light of day but losing to a League 1 side in the Cup is quite another when they turned you over 1-4 previously.
Take in to account rivalries and how we never play them etc etc and its a toxic mix.
So did i. Even in the first half there was some quick passing and movement, that looked light years away from previous managers. There was also some sad reminders of the fear filled static play of the previous two, which for me is expected as bad habits take time to erase.
Second half was impressive (apart from the lack of real clear chances as @Fowllyd says). Despite Adams working hard, i would have brought Ings on earlier, as he works well against a packed defence. Apart from that and the obvious FB issue, the only other issue was the trying to pass the ball to much around their area. Just shoot(@PhilippineSaint mentioned this quite early on if i remember).
Yes there are still issue to rectify, but for anyone that’s all doom and gloom, i’d be more worried if i was a Bournemouth fan. They took the points, but we were all over them and they had no answer. Other teams would have noticed that.
Disappointing, but much to give hope.
Hmmm, I think Phil McNulty must have been at a different game
The latter completed the formalities after a mix-up between Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn and defender Jan Bednarek.
It was of little overall consequence as it was the final act of the game but it gave the scoreline the sort of convincing appearance Bournemouth’s superiority deserved as they recorded their first win at Southampton at the 16th attempt.
As others have said previous seasons failings came to the fore last night, lots of posession but very few chances. Saying that, second half, their keeper was MOTM one superb save that was destined for the top left corner and his awareness and anticipation was superb.
Boufal and others came close many times and there were a few deflections that, on another day, might have made the onion bag bulge.
I seriously hope Ralph doesn’t play round pegs in square holes any more and I hope that he and Bertrand have patched up their differences.
And I disagree with McNulty’s comments about Bournemouth’s superiority, just look at the match stats
They are a smash and grab team but that’s their players and they play to their strengths.
The 2nd half was better but we still didn’t create much, shots is a comfort blanket again, how many too quality saves did the keeper have to do?
It’s powderpuff and let’s be honest we were a tad lucky with the Brighton and Sheffield United games.
We need a leader or a cunt someone is shit scared of, what was he thinking with that defensive line up? What the fuck was that all about?
What we were good at or more to the point is Romeu was good at was breaking up play but once we had the ball? I guess I was right about our new winger, going past a man is so valuable in the premiership and we don’t really have many if any who can do that on a consistent basis.
There is a team there but we need more quality at the back (one) in the middle (one) and even possibly a striker.
We had seasons of Puel, pellegrino and that shit Welsh bloke draining the energy out of them, its going to take a while to get to what we need, plus a few more transfer windows. It’s a work in progress. A top 12 finish, playing more to Ralph’s system and a few scalps and it’s a good season imo.
