Saints Stoke the fear of relegation

I’m sorry to say but I think that might be curtains. 5 wins from 29 games says it all.

Oh well.

I thought Hoedt’s challenge on Diouf showed lots of passion. Great timing as well :lou_smiley:

I’m disappointed, I’ll be honest. Luckily I’m on the piss in Oxford so will soon forget about it.

It should have been Gabbi time from the kickoff. Blindingly obvious that after his goal last week Gabbiadini should have started. But no, useless twat Tadic is preferred. He must give an amazing blowjob! What on earth is going on here? Pellegrino is clearly utterly out of his depth here, this was the game we had to win, given our run in. But what does he do? Leaves our only genuine goalscoring striker on the bench. Fucking madness. And as for Carrillo, our so called Argentinian saviour, record signing who looks as if he would struggle to impress in the Northern Premier League. As someone said in the Echo, he is Shane Long without the pace. Every true Saints fan is entitled to feel thoroughly pissed off with the way our club is being run into the ground. Were the owners there today? Do they even care? I have a very good friend who has been a fanatical Sunderland supporter for years. As he pointed out to me there are stark similarities between the way his club has ended up, bottom of the championship, heading for oblivion, and what is increasingly becoming a similar probabilty for The Saints. But hey, pointing this out makes us, ‘Twats’. If i was a paranoid consiracy theorist i might be tempted to think that useless twat Pellegrino is still working deep state for the Bin Dippers, taking us out of the premiership, thereby releasing the likes of Lemina, Boufal, (both have been linked with Liverpool this week), plus the rest of our talent, who certainly won’t be interested in playing in the Championship. Our squad as it stands now will be decimated. Let’s face it, if we can’t beat Stoke at home, given the difficult games coming up, there is nothing down for us. Time to face facts.

Turgid. I’ve taken my 6 year old to his first two games this season. Swansea and Stoke. Poor bastard.

I dont think anyone disagrees with the sentiment of your post NK, just that we all differ in how the situation affects us. I think the ‘Twat’ comment was not about the issues the club faces but the tone and style with which one poster presents them… and on multiple threads.

Think we all know where we are headed… maybe its a age thing, but having started supporting a second tier side, cant really get too fucked off if we are there again… Especoially when thePrem is just so ridiculously dominated by a few clubs with money… withe gap so much wider that in yesteryear.

“We show in flashes what MoPe is trying to do”? MoPe? FFS. He is not some fucking pop star. Time for grown up talk. His name is Pellegrino, the highly paid manager of our club who for months now has been doing a remarkably accurate impression of someone who has been promoted way above his pay grade, living proof of Einstein’s definition of madness, doing the same thing week after week and expecting a different result. What are these flashes that show what ‘MoPe’ is trying to do? Relegating our only proven goalscoring striker to the bench the week after he scores a quality last minute equalizer, starting instead with a show pony who has proved week after week that he is utterly fucking useless? Thereby reducing us to a 0 -0 draw with Stoke City at home in a match that we had to win. It almost seems as if you will be happy to see us relegated, better that than people say nasty truths about our “MoPe” and how he is clearly not up to the job, and clearly has utter contempt for the supporters by persisting in playing week in- week out with utter dross like Tadic, and refusing to do the blindingly obvious, ie, replacing him with a proven goalscorer like Gabbi. But that would mean he would have to admit that he has been wrong all these months, and that the supporters have been right. Can’t have that can we. Pellegrino should have been sacked weeks ago, it is only a matter of time anyway, he lost the supporters weeks ago, he won’t recover from that. Let’s face it, if we can’t beat Stoke at home, in a match of this importance, there is nothing down for us now. Perhaps in his next career move he could try replacing Ha Sty in One Direction!

Dont be a twat NK I am using the ‘MoPe’ as it seems the forum way… not for some starfucker affliction. 'Happy to us us relegated? really? looks to me like you are venting your own frustration … only point I am trying to make is the very ‘anger’ that is obvious from your post is just pointless… what the fuck does it achieve apart from you being miserable? You cant influence what is happening at the club, or the team that is picked anymore than I can… so you have a choice: make yourself miserable by taking it all so seriously, or recognise that we are shit right now for a number of reasons but realise that its part of the game… we want the riches and kudos of prem status, yet seem angry and surprized it attracts nefarious owners given the levels of cash involved.

Like I said to Barry last week… I cant get that angry or frustrated about football, when the old man has cancer, Anty died of Lymphoma last week… its just a fucking game that give pleaseure when we win, but is a bit ‘meh’ when we lose. or the owners decide to fuck up their 200mil investment…

In a game we really had to win, the lack of tempo, urgency, intensity, desire, passion – let alone any semblance of incisive tactical nous – in that first-half was truly astonishing … yet again! It’s mind numbing how pedestrian, laboured and predictable our approach play is most of the time. Things improved a bit in the second-half, but by then half of the match was over, ffs, and most of us in the crowd were already resigned to yet another poor result.

I still think we have a better squad than several of the teams above us, but it is shocking how poorly even the likes of Cedric and Bertrand are performing under this manager.

I reckon it’s taken a fair amount of incompetence by those running our club to descend so rapidly from the highs of less than two years ago to the miserable state we’re in now.

We were pants. Stoke were fucking shocking and we couldn’t beat them. Cedric and Bertrand look like they couldn’t give a flying fuck. We have a £19m lump up front and played 2 defensive midfielders at home against fucking Stoke.

On the plus side, I had a lovely meal, several pints and discovered that pregnant women are dead sexy.

I’ve accepted that we’re pretty much down now, such a waste of a decent squad. Not sure I get the pregnant women thing, but there are websites that can help you.

Well, the first half was shite - Stoke as well as us. But we played well in the second half, dominating possession and creating a good number of chances. And, but for some excellent saves by Butland and a startling miss by Boufal, we’d have won comfortably.

Tadic played pretty well I thought, Sims was excellent and Redmond got better as the game went on - taking players on, beating them, putting in crosses and having a couple of shots well saved. On that performance, particularly in the second half, he looked like the player we thought we were getting when we signed him. Romeu and Lemina were fine and the defence generally played well - Cedric had two shots on target, which must be a record for him in a single game (or maybe an entire season). Carillo looks decent enough at linking play and suchlike, but he doesn’t really look like a great goalscorer to me.

None of this is to understate or underestimate the parlous position that we’re in. We still have the same fundamental problem that we’ve had all season (and last season too, come to that). We don’t score enough goals. We can dominate possession, sometimes totally outplay opposing teams, but all too rarely do we make that count.

Would we have been better playing Gabbiadini from the off, as has been suggested? I honestly don’t know, but I do suspect that Gabbiadini is taking on that aura that so often seems to envelop a player who is injured or on the bench, whereby that player becomes everything we need and are lacking. Gabbiadini hit the ground running at Saints - excellent goal in his first game and a good number to follow. Then he got injured and, in my view at least, he hasn’t looked the same player since. I’d have probably started him ahead of Carillo, but let’s not pretend we’d have been guaranteed a win had that happened.

All in all, a horribly frustrating game. I wouldn’t fault Pellegrino particularly, though I still have serious reservations about him. Today he selected a good squad and team, and his substitutions were all positive ones. But we still didn’t score. We could have, we should have. But we didn’t. Sound familiar?

That’s a pretty fair and balanced opinion. The team is struggling and low on confidence. It’s easier to single out an individual to blame. The team Pellegrino picked was pretty attacking, the subs were also right in my opinion. You just can’t keep selling off your best players every season. The replacements this time just aren’t good enough.

Luckily I had the daughters wedding to distract me yesterday which just may have been a bit more intresting than the football.

If we are relegated we aren’t worth £210 million plus Kats bit.

Not an issue unless the owner borrowed or leveraged assets to buy us. Oh…

Not an issue unless an officer had been sacked for pointing that out when other potential suitors existed.

A conspirators idea would be it’s deliberate so as to wreck someone’ finances then come in with a rescue partner which was who the board wanted in the 1st place.

OR everyone could be really stupid and think this is fine.
