:saints:šŸ•“ Saints' next manager

Why is Rysn Giggs getting mentioned now! Jeez!

Cuz betting streams have dried up on other names…inject a new name…get things going again.

Down to 3/1 with Betvictor now lads - get yer wedge on him quick whilst 10/1 is still there.

I wonder what differentiates Puel from the other names mentioned. All managers must be great coaches now or have teams that support them that do the great coaching. Even Bournemouth have 30 odd sports science related team working behind the scenes. So can’t see this makes them different.

I would think the manager must be the motivator and the team maker, in which case little to do with experience and more to do with character. That’s probably Eddie Howe’s strength. When we hear that the manager has lost the dressing room it has nothing to do with training / player development.

This makes me believe it’s more to do with who carries the board messages that they want carried and who can be controlled in this. The only leaver I believe doesn’t fit this bill is Adkins who went because of panic of prem loss in first year back.

See I dont think that was it at all - His replacement was planned before he set foot in the door - his role in the 5 year plan wa sto get us to the prem - and then not was Poch’s turn - He knew it wa scomming as he alluded to with his comments on promotionday v Coventry.

We want manger who will continue in the same style - so that work being done at youth level means those player who make it can slot staright in, same with player selection - so manager needs to be prepared to work to a style and with resources he is given and follow the plan- all very un English mentality and certainly woudl freak out all the ld school wankers - it requires a more measured ego, or one whose ego is on that wavelength.

Well let’s hope we don’t give any European manager more than a two year contract.

Hi. First post… I’ve stopped clucking about the first team coach position - and reminded myself that our progress is all about the business model. The basics of this are - operate and grow within means; play the type of football that fans want and will win us new fans; run the club to a set of values that everyone can identify with including fans, players, staff etc; only sell when bids vastly exceed the clubs valuation or when players want to leave and will disrupt the team; invest heavily in youth development inc facilities, coaching, clear pathway to first team, consistent style and football education at all levels; invest in research and succession planning to find established players and staff that fit these criteria. Occasionally recruit an exceptional player or coach that brings something new to the club. Pretty standard set up for a typical successful business. Lots of parallels with the Liebherr companies and Marcus in particular.

Sometimes mistakes are made. Exceptional players don’t perform. PR gaffes. Overselling or binding players to managers instead of the club. Trying to turn the ā€˜stepping stone’ perception into an explicit means to attract players. Lots of others. But the club learns from these. One of the recent lessons is perhaps that success and growth under Koeman has been achieved in some ways by compromising the model. Our style stagnated around Koemans target man = Graziano style - which Koeman brought from Feyenoord but got found out fairly quickly by prem defences and coaches, and wasn’t our preferred attacking style. The promising and heavily invested Academy pathway to the first team got blocked. Our foray into everything Dutch faltered a little with players on Koemans roster beginning to underperform - VVD being the exception but was already a fit to the clubs model and on our radar.

My sense is that our next coach will be a return to the model, with the augmentation of our 5 year plan (we need to make sure of direction and know what is needed for the next challenge ie regular Europa League campaign and maintain top 10 Prem status). Whoever it is will get my full support.

Welcome Bolshie,

Not a bad intro if I say so.

But which part of the clubs media dept are you from ?

Welcome.

And Philippine, it’s only you and me on here who don’t work for the club.

That’s why we get such good quality ITK news on a daily basis, so much better than other forums where they have to endure fantasist shit from mischievous people on a wind-up.

Interested to hear who you believe was blocked coming through the youth set up? I love seeing the youngsters and our own making it but not sure we have the group now that we have had. If our youngsters were that good and being held back they would be winning everything at youth level or standing out in loans. I don’t think this has happened.

I agree with your view about our culture and believe in the sentiment, but again we have to have flexibility in the plan to deal with the current environment. Money will have changed the prem lge this year and the quality of incoming players again will likely be a step up, we can’t just ignore this.

If we truly believe in youth then let’s spend our money on the worlds best and develop them. Mane for me is an example of this policy, but you can’t then complain that the homegrown youngsters are blocked. The weakness of our strategy is the level of turnover in the core of the team each year and having to replace them…before it’s said yes I am aware that we have a year on year improvement, but when Poch left I felt the policy changed and the message of ambition to players changed, hence we see players being ready to move on.

Our board may be a lot of things but utterly stupid is not one of them. Never in a million years would Giggs get the job.

It’s still Marco Silva for me over Puel. Ticks all the right boxes with a flourish IMO.

Valid points - totally agree re flexibility in strategy but the values should stay the same - and the keeping up with the competition which will force us to act - although buying the best players is not the same as buying the ā€˜right’ players. I’m not ITK or part of the club - just a fan for nearly 40 years, so seen a lot of change. Re youth set up - in 2014/15 we won the U21 cup (remember Gallaghers pile driver?) and in the pre-season and 2013/14 season we had a lot of promising players in the u18 and u21 set up - Targett, Hesketh, Turnbull, Stephens, McCarthy, Sims, Gallagher, McQueen, Reed, Shaw, Seager, Chambers, some of them made the first team, supported by Poch and the high pressing game that we like at the club. With Shaw and Chambers sold, Poch decamping to Spuds and RK preferring to bring players he knew from the Eridivisie, first team opps dwindled and then stopped. The argument about not being good enough is something I don’t agree with - players get good by being challenged and need opps to learn and improve in the first team, not loans to lower clubs or development/reserve games. Poch got that and backed the system and the academy players (and continues to do at Spuds) - RK backed his own system and Pelle. We still have a target to have half the first team homegrown from the academy - that needs everyone in the club to back it and make it happen, rather can create a wall and wonder why players don’t get over it.

I guess I’ve got faith in the club and a dry mattress. For now!!

I half expect my name to come up on sky bet as one of the candidates when I check the odds!

Stupid now… They do not have a clue do they.

still frank for me, just don’t know what they are waiting for. Stories from my Ajax connections through my old work, say he is still favourite in the Netherlands, but gone very quiet indeed, not ruled out no developments. This makes me think the club statement will come shortly about the appointment.

Hello once again. Haven’t posted on here for ages so hope all are well.

I’m putting ā€œthatā€ disclaimer on this post that I am in no way ITK, know anybody connected to the club etc and I’m only passing on information I found on a football rumour site which can be found by anyone out there in Internet land.

Basically two people were stating who they believe is to be our next manager, one was Puel, the other…Lee Johnson of Bristol City!!

I in no way vouch for the accuracy of this claim, it was on a rumour site, but he is VERY young and English. I did a Google search and his playing and managerial career didn’t seem super exciting, nor his win percentage compared to other candidates. Cue #meltdown

So there you have it and I apologise to the person whose information it was in the first place, I hope they weren’t hanging onto it to post on here

Ho Ho … my Whelmed would be totally Undered … but can’t see it happeneing in a million years!! Maybe it’s a clever ploy to make Klinnsman or Giggs look good

I do get fed up when anybody who has a different view is alluded to bed wetting. I understand game time is important and so is performance and that is what I mean by development. I keep hearing either or and I believe it’s both and. My way or the highway rarely works in any venture. Remi Garde was identified as a really good player developer and coach but having the fundamentals are necessary too. It doesn’t just work because you want it to.

By the way I went to my first game in 67 so have seen twists and turns over many years too.

Lee Johnson would be a very good appointment

if we were Eastleigh!

Wasn’t implying you were a bed wetter - just stating that I’m not. Until Klinnsman jets in at least :scream:
