:saints:🕴 Saints' next manager

Sorry, late night, and I still had to type this all up.

I met my friend briefly for a drink tonight after seeing my dad, to talk about today’s news and events [and ask what the fuck is going on]. This is what came of that discussion:

I started by asking basically what the fuck just happened today.

My friend/source said they stand by everything they have told me so far, but feels it extremely difficult to defend themselves now in light of information the Club has clearly put out, without openly contradicting their narrative.

Ultimately they feel that their good intentions got out of control.

It was never my friend’s [or mine] wish for this to develop into a twitter frenzy. Quite the contrary. When this sharing of info started it was meant for just a small almost unknown forum in Sotonians, to filter out quietly. Neither of us wanted such attention or large audience – but that was kind of taken out of our hands from the beginning, so in the end we embraced it.

Initially my friend was only placing information that was wanted out there [unofficially], but as a Saints fan themselves, understands how frustrating it is when we lose our best players and managers every season, then nothing seems to be happening, and we want answers. They said they enjoyed keeping the fans in the loop, and just wanted to do something good by giving us encouraging snippets, but they overstepped the bounds when passing on info about the contract being offered to MP.

I asked what they have to say now, after telling me MP was essentially a done deal, and I stuck my neck on the line in sharing that?

My friend is gutted that they fucked up in giving out something they shouldn’t have, and is sorry to the club and fans and to me for the aftermath of that, but said they were just passing on what was the last talk at the time, and that was - we were very confident a deal with MP was going to happen, or my friend would not have mentioned it. S/he regrets sharing something that put the Club in a compromising position if it didn’t come off.

My friend reiterated in defence of their reliability, that they were the one that first informed us Klinsmann was not in the running, even whilst he was 1/6 on and seemed a certainty, and reminded me of what they suggested would happen next should the deal with MP not come off.

They also pointed out [as I have] that if we look back through all the info they have shared, a lot of it has already happened as they said, more would also soon occur, and many past aspects have been confirmed by other excellent sources, before we judge them solely on one [albeit significant] story in the media [that may not be quite what it appears].

But I’ve said from the start: “I’ll keep sharing – as long as it keeps being right”.

My friend again stated that all the info they have shared has been truthful to the best of their knowledge, but will be far more careful about what they tell me in future as a result of this, and for the time being is best they say no more. I still trust my friend, and believe their word. But obviously you don’t know them personally, so how can you know for sure? As they said, it is up to us if we still want to hear anything else from them or not in the future.

Which brings me to this…

“What shall we do with Jack’s Schitt?”

Then this thread can carry on with the new manager talk. And gerbils in cardboard tubes. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It is very late now [late night] so I’ll read through all the recent posts, catch up and reply tomorrow [day off].

Hope Puel is more Wenger than Garde. Who is he going to bring with him then

Hmm…this does somewhat contradict things you said previously about your source wanting you to tell lots of people, about the club wanting to pave the way by letting people know stuff, about your source being angry at you for not releasing information when told to etc. You had previously made it sound much more orchestrated than just casual conversations.

Still trying to get my head around how we went from apparently offering him a contract to not being interested in him? WTF happened there?

Got to go British now (English preferably) surely??

One of the things that I believe I read was that the Wanyama sale wasn’t going through until we had our managerial situation clarified. It was said that this was our priority and selling Big Vic could wait.

Does this mean an announcement is imminent?

David Cameron is now available.

Thanks Jack, happy to hear more as still think majority of what you have passed on has been on point… Just be good if all this could be sorted sooner rather than later. MP would have been such a statement… Puel really doesn’t excite me at all. After being stitched over by the Lying Dutchman to have made a statement signing of MP’s stature would have been such a welcome thing to happen. Ah well, guess we have to trust the board to get it right. We still have Europa, the prem and cup games to look forward too. Don’t mind Vic going but would love to see Mané, Tadic and Long stay.

Latest from the Crook man…

Oh, you beat me to it by about 5 minutes…

Claude Puel must be feeling like the plain girl at the party who you know will put out if asked, but you have spent the last three hours chatting up her better looking mates. Now, having been blown out by the mates, you are desperately casting about for a shag.

Frank De Boer still on the list?

Like the look of that CF Janssen…Spurs offer of 11 mil turned down…AZ want 14 mil.

Just a thought

It was more orchestrated at first, until my friend started sharing more than was asked of their own accord. My point was when it started, it was intended for release at sotonians. I did not advertise it further myself and share it on twitter, but once that had happened, my friend was pleased that the Koeman info was becoming more well known. As things progressed, they became comfortable with the rest of their info reaching a larger audience and embraced that ‘role’. The original Koeman info, and the early info on managerial candidates was what was ‘sanctioned’ to get out there. What followed was my friend deciding to share more that had been asked of them.

Still have more reading back to do later, as my day off has not gone as planned.

That’s the problem. If Saints want the info out there using this method then they should not be surprised when us true fans want more. After all the years of this leaving of managers & players we need stability. I don’t see this happening at other clubs. We can only go on for so long before something goes wrong. All the heartache we have experienced in the past, surely tells us something is still not right. Why can’t we keep managers, players and so forth. Is the problem at the Top? Does Kat’ not want us unlike her father to be a top Club? Is there a top level of spending per season and that’s that! You see, if we are only being given small tip bits which on the outside seems good, like knowing the real problem with RK, this can have a really bad effect on the confidence we have with the club. We will always be Saints fans no matter what, that’s exactly what true fans do. But we are now getting to the point that makes me wonder if the past few years have just been good practice or Luck!

Don’t get me wrong JS I for one have enjoyed your inside knowledge, it has up till MP been good. Now I wonder how far the level of news by this method will be released. Will you for instance be given the inside news on Mane? Will we once again see Liverpool dispite no European football get one of our best Players, without any news given to you because the club knows how unhappy we will be, even if we are offered 30 Million? Time will tell, but there are a lot of unhappy fans right now. We spend a lot of our hard earned cash supporting our club, I will continue to do so no matter what happens, its just this drip drip effect that is wearing everyone down.

All I can say is hopefully we can get everything right this season so next season and beyond we have the stability we crave. Thanks for listening to my rant. Male menopause me thinks.
