Sorry, late night, and I still had to type this all up.
I met my friend briefly for a drink tonight after seeing my dad, to talk about todayâs news and events [and ask what the fuck is going on]. This is what came of that discussion:
I started by asking basically what the fuck just happened today.
My friend/source said they stand by everything they have told me so far, but feels it extremely difficult to defend themselves now in light of information the Club has clearly put out, without openly contradicting their narrative.
Ultimately they feel that their good intentions got out of control.
It was never my friendâs [or mine] wish for this to develop into a twitter frenzy. Quite the contrary. When this sharing of info started it was meant for just a small almost unknown forum in Sotonians, to filter out quietly. Neither of us wanted such attention or large audience â but that was kind of taken out of our hands from the beginning, so in the end we embraced it.
Initially my friend was only placing information that was wanted out there [unofficially], but as a Saints fan themselves, understands how frustrating it is when we lose our best players and managers every season, then nothing seems to be happening, and we want answers. They said they enjoyed keeping the fans in the loop, and just wanted to do something good by giving us encouraging snippets, but they overstepped the bounds when passing on info about the contract being offered to MP.
I asked what they have to say now, after telling me MP was essentially a done deal, and I stuck my neck on the line in sharing that?
My friend is gutted that they fucked up in giving out something they shouldnât have, and is sorry to the club and fans and to me for the aftermath of that, but said they were just passing on what was the last talk at the time, and that was - we were very confident a deal with MP was going to happen, or my friend would not have mentioned it. S/he regrets sharing something that put the Club in a compromising position if it didnât come off.
My friend reiterated in defence of their reliability, that they were the one that first informed us Klinsmann was not in the running, even whilst he was 1/6 on and seemed a certainty, and reminded me of what they suggested would happen next should the deal with MP not come off.
They also pointed out [as I have] that if we look back through all the info they have shared, a lot of it has already happened as they said, more would also soon occur, and many past aspects have been confirmed by other excellent sources, before we judge them solely on one [albeit significant] story in the media [that may not be quite what it appears].
But Iâve said from the start: âIâll keep sharing â as long as it keeps being rightâ.
My friend again stated that all the info they have shared has been truthful to the best of their knowledge, but will be far more careful about what they tell me in future as a result of this, and for the time being is best they say no more. I still trust my friend, and believe their word. But obviously you donât know them personally, so how can you know for sure? As they said, it is up to us if we still want to hear anything else from them or not in the future.
Which brings me to thisâŚ
âWhat shall we do with Jackâs Schitt?â
Then this thread can carry on with the new manager talk. And gerbils in cardboard tubes.
It is very late now [late night] so Iâll read through all the recent posts, catch up and reply tomorrow [day off].
