Hi again guys
My goodness, if it isnāt the lesser spotted Smirking_saint! Good to see you back, fella.
firstly, great effort on the forum guys, much better than (somewhat struggling for life) saints web.
Meh, itās all cyclical and they have loads more football contributors than we do. However, if itās a boon for people to be able to come onto a site, express an opinion and not be called a cunt (at least not in a nasty way) then weāre only too happy to accommodate.
Weāre fucked the minute people realise theyāve got a spare fiver in their pocket or miss computer-killing advertising.
I wonder what caused the club to change direction with Garcia, and I wonder why we seem to be somewhat struggling to get a named manager to show real interest.
Cāmon now, you miserable bugger. The sort of names on the shortlist that arenāt immediately laughing us off in the press are pretty impressive, and a bloody far cry from the Lowe era, the in-house promotions or the hail maries like Sturrock, untested in the big leagues.
Weāre still gambling of course, but the Southampton job is now a very attractive one.
We set ourselves up as a progressive, well run club that is now in Europe. I wonder if we are difficult to work with. We dont have the best track record of keeping our top coaches.
We donāt have a track record of keeping our best players either, but most Saints fans know the story behind each one. The thing weāre most famous for is being a place where young talent is nurtured and comes through. The problem weāve got is that most players see Gareth Bale as a role model, not MLT.
Nowt wrong with Bale - heās one of those welcome exceptions that seems to have made all the right moves, and fair play to him for holding down a berth in one of the best teams in the world.
Perhaps the ambition just isnt there and maximum results are expected from medium outlay.
Probably a bit of that, but I reckon the issue is control and precedent as much as anything else. Numerous snippets of Jack Schittās original post have been confirmed. Assuming the part about overreaching on a gamble is true, then how best does the club demonstrate strength, particularly when Everton had helpfully released their offer to the press?
If RK had stayed, everyone would have assumed that weād just beaten their offer financially. Given their desperation, you canāt tell me that Everton wouldnāt have made an even higher counter-offer. Where would have it have ended? 10mil a year? Heās already the 6th highest paid manager.
