:saints:šŸ•“ Saints' next manager

There’s no need to be without the Chiefs.

ā€œEvery day I love you less and lessā€ can be rolled out for any number of defectors, managers included.

I see it like this, you’ve had a partner for the last 2 years who’s been great for you, sex has been great, all your friends like them, you can even spoon without wanting sex!

Then suddenly some flash harry in a Porsce makes a pass at them and your partner immediately falls for their charms. Despite previous protestations that they love you and you’re their life they leave you the next week!

In that situation would you be wishing your partner well?

ain’t it that Les has been with Koeman for 2 years & sex is Gr8, but Les wants kids, and Koeman don’t want kids, and Les says lets get married, and Koeman says I don’t want married. I’ll give you another year tho. And Les say, if you’re gonna leave me in a year, you may as well fk off now.

In a nutshell.

Yeah but if the sex is gr8 don’t you say one more year is ok. We may be getting in the sweaty to replace :grimacing:

Breast or age ?

Most of us are here already :lou_lol:

Very interesting evening. :lou_sunglasses:

Was invited for a few drinks with an old friend. :lou_wink_2:

I am not in the doghouse, which is good. However…

ā€œYou did cost me an insignificant sum on a small wager, so the drinks are on you. But more importantly – you missed out on a great opportunity to establish some solid credentialsā€.

Although…

ā€œfortunately Ronald was good enough to confirm your earlier account in his own words today, so we’re all good there.ā€

Haha, I’ve heard all about this tonight, but only just got in, so looking forward to sitting down and watching his Press Conference myself once I’ve posted. :lou_lol:

There is not a great deal to share tonight from a couple of hours of enjoyable company and conversation [only some of which was Saints related] – but a few interesting bits to drop in for you – momentarily. It was excellent to hear my friend just talking openly in relaxed surroundings about life in general at the Club, but most of it was not particularly relevant ā€œITKā€ type gossipy stuff. I can share some bits if there’s any interest, but it is nothing really groundbreaking.

Anyway, the few bits I think will likely be of interest, some of which I’ll use to reply to a few posts. Albeit a lot of the knowledge itself is already apparently ā€œout thereā€ anyway today, it is still interesting to have their perspective and insights on it:

if I were being cynical and posting on SWF, I’d be saying that the club are keen to leak information to people like jack and k billy so that we are forearmed with information about managers most normally wouldn’t have heard of. Posters research into these managers, say they’re a great fit , play lovely football, use youth and when the appointment is made we’re all happy. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening (but that is what’s happening).

Spot on mate. It was termed to me as ā€œpreparing the groundā€.

Adam Blackmore was saying the opposite only yesterday, :lou_facepalm_2:so who knows whether he knows anything or is guessing…

Adam was saying exactly what [at that time] was the working info. He was correct at the time of print – but things have changed.

We were all settled in our minds on Rudi. And I’m actually pretty gutted, as of all the names I’ve heard who have been spoken about and with, Rudi excited me the most. But as has already been publicised, that is now unlikely to happen. Real shame, I think he would have been great. But it is far more important what Les [and the Board] thinks.

Rudi was indeed looking very likely, and I have been given no knowledge of why, but that all changed once they had spoken with him in more detail. I’m unsure if that was a Rudi or Club decision, was just told it looked like things would be unlikely to work out as envisaged.

I don’t think anyone really knows, but having lost money on Frank de boer going to Everton, I might as well put it on him to become Saints boss, as my ā€˜ITK’ seems to think it is going to be him!

I think everyone is guessing a little!

we will see.

On Frank, it is a curious situation. Your ITK may have been right, at one point. I was told tonight that initially, FDB was outside of the top contenders [which we already know] – due to only having managed at one club – but that as others had been spoken to and ruled out, the fact that he had enjoyed great success playing in a style that we like, saw him come into closer consideration, and taken more seriously. It could have been at this point that your ITK got his info.

To the best of my friend’s current knowledge however, despite his excellent pedigree, FDB’s lack of being able to demonstrate having implemented his philosophy at more than one club is still considered a drawback. Mainly because it is Ajax’s philosophy, rather than necessarily Frank’s, and easy to implement there, as it’s instilled in them all from when they’re young kids. He’s simply not had the opportunity to prove he can play that way by implementing such a philosophy himself at another Club, thereby demonstrating consistency in application of his style and ideals. It is not to say 100% he is definitely out of the running, but from what my friend says, whilst the Board find him to be an impressive man, they’d not expect FDB to get the nod in the end.

Moving on…

and we must address the matter of the previously dismissed notion of Manuel Pellegrini. According to my friend tonight – since whatever it was that changed our course, after expecting to go with Rudi Garcia, Manuel is now actually being given serious thought. I’m told that rather than just appoint the previous next favourite, the Board calmly decided to ā€œpause for breathā€, and reassess our options over afresh. I understand that this came after Pellegrini’s agent made contact, and something about that conversation convinced the Board to hold further discussions on those channels, about what he feels he would bring to the Club.

How that has progressed since – my friend has not yet learnt that information.

But talk about an about face!

The thing that concerns me [and my friend] is the matter of Claude Puel coming into consideration. The Board are great admirers of the energy his sides play with, and he has demonstrated a keen ability to implement a high pressing game [something we consider important, as we already know] – however – whilst enjoying varying measures of success with his Monaco, Lille and Nice sides, which is good, he often prefers formations that are not in keeping with our philosophy, and can have a tendency to revert to a defensive system when his side are going through a difficult patch, [just like Koeman did]. So we’re [my friend and I] just not really sure why we would go down that road. All my friend knows, is that there is something about him the Board like a lot, and that he is still under definite consideration. I trust our Les, as he’s never let us down so far – I just don’t understand going that direction, if it happens. Not to mention, of all our candidates – he has the lowest win percentage of the lot.

My friend suggested that perhaps Claude has been able enough to convince [in some way] our Board that he will be perfectly capable of adapting to our ā€œSouthampton Wayā€ – though for me at least – I’d prefer someone who already has a proven track record for this [and so I thought until now, did our Board]. So Claude confuses me somewhat. But, for whatever reasons, in consideration he is.

At last point of knowledge, we are still interested in and intending to speak with Vitor Pereira again in more detail. That info is yesterday’s though, and my contact is unsure if this has since happened yet. Understand that he is particularly keen on the opportunity though, which is always a good thing to have in your favour, and would take to the role with great passion.

As I understand, we simply want to make sure we get this absolutely right. So are keeping many options still on the table, even ones that may at first seem unconventional, by our standards. Everyone [under consideration] is being given the opportunty to really impress upon us why they would be the perfect fit to take us forward.

Despite the disappointment around Rudi seemingly being out of the running, and reports today along those lines, the last my friend heard, he was still not 100% out of consideration. As they put it – ā€œRome wasn’t built in a dayā€. But other avenues are looking a lot more likely.

I’ll end on a hopefully promising note:

ā€œWe are hopeful of concluding positive discussions soon, that are underway on contract extentions with two players that will please the fansā€.

Not allowed to name names, but it is not Victor Wanyama. Hardly a great secret, but he’ll not be with us for very much longer.

Have a great weekend my friends. :lou_smiley:

I like a nice ring now and again

Not another convert FFS each to his or her own but it looks like the LBTGSYBZ brigade or what ever they are known as are radicalising the Sotonian’s to be a bunch of fannies

Still think we should have t-shirts made.

You are fired as commercial manager before you’ve even been offered the job.

Saying that, I’ll probably re-hire you. We’re desperate for staff.

I’m cheap.

you’re a tart :lou_is_a_flirt:

Jack’s friend needs a codename, you know? He can’t keep calling him ā€œmy friendā€ all the time. It’ll get confusing if Jack had more than one friend.

ā€œDeep Throatā€ is already taken, and tbh i’m not sure if they’re exactly on those kind of terms, in anycase it’s a bit of a mouthful. How about ā€œBack Door Saintā€ because, you know, he is sneaking information out the back door?

C&A factory outlet store over here has some nice white T shirts on sale for Ā£1.99 each with big Chinese letters that probably doesn’t say sotonians.com rule.

Just saying

Srsly?

This thread is becoming more epic than GoT. I’m without WiFi for a day and another back door grenade goes off on here.

Think Paposter missed an open goal. With such valuable ground preparing information we should have been charging Registration fees from all these JCL’s it would at least have covered my bar bill at the next meeting up & possibly paid for our Tshirts.

Meanwhile I kind of enjoy how Succession Planning is being portrayed by the Club. It’s as if we’re the first team in history who have employed a proper HR manager!

Almost expect to see the job advertised on LinkedIn…

I’d be very surprised if it was Puel, very defensively organised, one nation manager… in a poor French league no less. It just sounds, IMO, improbable. Besides, his name really doesn’t go with any of our songs.

Garcia on the other hand…

Cheers, good to be here.

Yeah, Mane would be a surprise, but a welcome one.

Regards Wanyama, seems he’s been talking of the move before the medical, lifted the following from The Ugly Inside:

Speaking to soka25east in Kenya, Wanyama said.

ā€œIt’s always a tough moment leaving a club that you are so much used to their tradition and fans but again it’s always the dream of any footballer to play at the very top level like Champions league ā€

ā€œI will definitely miss the awesome Southampton fans who always showed me love and I know they will fully understand my decision "

People who say he’s easily replaceable are dreaming, not many beasts like this fella on the market. Tho with that said we can certainly do without the red cards that come with him.
