Most people on here normally complain when we blindly follow the yanks

True, though the UK government is a tad useless

It’s all pretty shambolic. You’ve got Ukraine asking its citizens to take up arms and defend the homeland. That’s normally the sort of thing that happens right at the end of a war. The Ukrainian President has a look about him which says “ooh, fuck - we might have put our faith in the wrong people”.

They have.

Who should they have placed their faith in then?

I agree with the professor. It would have been much better for Ukraine to have pursued a truly neutral position and capitalised on being the bridge between East and West.

If they had been allowed to have concluded their deal with Russia back in 2014, they’d be in a much better spot.

The path taken by the illegal governments since has been to shell part of its own country while agitating for membership of NATO. With the benefit of hindsight, I bet even the people behind the coup would have chosen a different path.

If only there were role models they could have copied.

Like Finland & Sweden

Pap, they’re not an illegal Government, they’re the recognised Government, they had a Russian puppet in power and went and signed a deal with them when it was agreed they’d have closer links to the EU and Europe as a whole.
They’re facts not opinion.

Any Country should be free to decide their own fate, you sound like a dinosaur supporting the cold war and you sound like the baddie in Atomic Blonde

If you believe that would have worked you’re incredibly naive, this isn’t Finlandization, Putin is not arsed about NATO in regard of who joins (he respects the borders so you’re ok mate safe and sound) he simply doesn’t recognise Ukraine as a nation state and sees it as a Russian vassal.
Putin is a bully but in 20 years he’ll be dead and Finland, Sweden and Ukraine will be in NATO and Belarus will still be getting bumbed by Moscow.

And Finland and Sweden won’t join NATO as its better to play Russia off, Ukraine is a vastly different geo political argument, they’re neutral for a start.

Yeah. And you just made the point we are all making.
NATO & Merkel were at fault for pushing this despite 8 years of KNOWING what would happen because they have to play a short term game. IF they had simply waited and introduced gradual changes a Swiss style EU agreement this would never have given Putin the ammunition he needed.

Meanwhile.
Pierogi is the National Dish of Poland (Dumplings)
Russian Pierogi is a version made with cheese and potatoes.

Today Restaurants across the country are posting FB pictures of their new Menu’s with marker pens striking out Russian and now calling it Ukrainian Pierogi.

Why is a nation wanting to join a legitimate organisation ammunition?
Maybe that is why they want to join said organisation?
Why did Poland join it quickly? Because they’re not fu**ing soft thats why.
You can’t lay blame at Ukraine for wanting to do what they want, that is apologetic to Putin tyrant behaviour.
Now you can lay blame at the EU, Merkel and their cosyness to Russia over their gas supply and their lack of criticism over Russia over the last decade, but that can be also pointed at many EU Countries.
This will change now and Russia will have to look East to export its Gas and Oil.
Norway, Saudi, Nigeria and a few others will be made up with this.

Ha Ha I hope Russia is in for the long haul on this, they’ve been doing this for years and now the worm will most definitely turn. They can close facebook and censor everything but they’ll still need the internet.

Oh, the delicious irony of a hacking collective reviled by western governments taking on the Russians.

I assume it’s not more fake news.

Of course but who do they dislike more? Well I think the answer is clear, they’ll stop when Russia leaves Ukraine.

But of course RT is still live and running on my tv as I type.

It is and I want it to continue (I’ve always maintained censor and bans are a waste of time and for people who can’t accept difference), they should be laughed at for their propaganda and poor programming (there are some good bits and Imran Khan did a great interview on there recently).
They were targeted 2 days ago and everything bar the tv went off which was great comedy tv.

By the terms of Ukraine’s own constitution, that is not a legal government. Never reached the threshold to oust the Russia friendly government back during the coup.

Who recognised that government btw? Why, it’s the self-same people that have left it to fend for itself now.

That’s me done on this thread

Bye Barry

So Zelensky wasn’t elected?

It has to fend for itself Pap as you say as the West abides by the rules, the west will send an awful lot of arms though (arms that Russia will not be able to defend against ie Javelins and some of Germanys hardware) and will continue to do so so Russia will never get a stable foothold in the Country without Ukrainians consent.
He hasn’t even got through Kyiv yet and that is supposed to be the easy bit, westward and into the countryside will be very very difficult especially as they can hunker down and get prepared for this, all with high tech defensive weaponry.
And there are rumours that the Bosphorus could be closing soon, Putin’s grip will loosen a lot, his money will dry up now swift is cutting off Russia.
He has overreached by some margin here, not for a moment do I believe he can’t take Ukraine, he can and in all probability will but he won’t be able to hold and control the country, it’ll be Chechnya on steroids.
