…but if an artist has to explain his work he has failed…
I would that if the work is open to interpretation, (which most art is) then more care should be taken when selecting it to represent a particular POV?
I sort of agree with hat he is tying to say, but a anti-racism campaign where the monkey/ape has been so hideously used as an insult to black people seems at bets very misguided
This is a very clever campaign because it tells us that WE ARE ALL MONKEYS. So rather than just picking on the black monkeys, ultras should be throwing banana at ALL of the monkeys. It has single handedly defeated racism and created equality.
As much as I respect my elders, that is bollocks you daft old cunt.
Yes, i was reading an interview with the artist this morning where he explained this, and i agree, it is very clever. Sadly, it will be totally lost on the ultras, will go straight over their heads. The soft cunts will take it as being supportive of their vile agenda.
I like your persuasive argument…but it’s not bollocks. If it’s open to interpretation, it’s whatever it says to YOU, no matter what the artist says.
What if they only threw bananas at the obese monkeys? How would you feel about that?
Again, helping the obese monkeys eat fruit and steering then away from the pies that big fat monkeys love. This artist is a genius.
The real racism here is that everyone (including the artist) is calling these paintings of chimpanzees monkeys.
I generally avoid making any serious comments, but there’s a point here. Everyone is up in arms about the monkey pictures, but the artist has explained the thinking behind them. If we subsequently say “ah yes, but they’re monkeys, therefore it’s an attack on black humans” then it’s us who are the racists, not the artist. We’re the ones equating monkeys with black people, not him.
Seems that realisation has been dawning on those in power and some backtracking / fire fighting is underway

This, for me, is probably the best soundbite from that article
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder: "I have always thought that it’s a societal problem and is attached to football grounds.
“If you are sat next to someone who is doing it, saying terrible, terrible things, just out them. Out the people next to you. Be brave and police your own football ground. Isolate them and let’s get them out.”
Chris Wilder is absolutely right. It is a societal problem. Trying to pretend that this is just a football problem is nonsense, and a cop out. Gary Neville was absolutely correct with his comments on Sky and should be applauded. Racism is rife in British society today, and anyone thinking otherwise is burying their head in the sand.
So many people in denial. Racism is everywhere, just stand and listen in any pub, on the bus etc. We have a Prime Minister now who is leading the charge, black people are piccanninies, Muslims look like bank robbers, gay people are bum boys etc etc, and nobody calls him out on it. Just Boris being Boris, what a lark eh. Since the Eu referendum it is almost legitimized.Johnson and his crew have exacerbated it and more importantly benefited from it. Many many interviews after the referendum made it quite clear what people were voting for, particularly those from the working classes and the poorer areas of the country.
Will Self did a series, i think on Radio 4, it is probably out there on podcast somewhere, he did a tour of the UK after the referendum, many episodes from towns all over the country, The SW, South Wales, Northern England, etc and in friendly conversations asked people what they had voted for, and why. The answers were almost all the same, too many foreigners, black people, Muslims etc etc. These people weren’t in denial, nor was UKIP, pap’s mates in the Brexit Party, on their websites they made it very clear. These are your fellow travelers Pap whether you like it or not. Come out of the closet Little England, this is what you voted for and this is what you will get.
Sadly this is our shame… but unsurprising. This is a nation who still feel annoyed that shit shit like love thy neighbour etc became ‘unfashionable’ and who just love calling out everything designed to try and improve equality as ‘PC gone mad’… that expression itself The mantra of the casual racist…
The best way to stop racism in football is to ban black footballers.
Or ban bananas in football grounds?
does a bent banana mean a gay black footballer then?
No it’s post Brexit freedom…no more EU mandated straight bananas.
Snowflake.
